This thread might be better off if posted in the EJ20T or maybe even General forum. Either way...

It's really hard to decide what your first mod would be. You have to choose between looks/handling and power. The best way is to decide what is most important to you. I'll try to give you an idea of a good FIRST mod for both.

Engine:

I'd recommend an ECU reflash, or a "stage" package as found on many tuners websites. An ECU reflash will give you some of the best hp/$$ for your first mod, and you're going to need to do one anyway at some point as you continue to modify the car.

My first mod was the Cobb stage 1, which is a reflash only. The Cobb reflash is supposed to take your car from stock power to 260hp, or about 195hp at the wheels (vs. about 165hp at the wheels stock). You could also do Vishnu stage 0 or subzero, which will get you more power than the Cobb stage 1, but will also help you empty your wallet faster.

Handling/Looks:

If you think the power is good enough stock, then you could modify the way your car looks and handles. You can pick and choose which parts to replace in the suspension, but it will probably cost as much or more as the base Cobb reflash either way. I would start by getting some springs or coil overs. The eibach, perrin and tein springs all seem to be really good and they're pretty reasonably priced. I have the STi pink springs, which are a little more pricey. Once you do springs, I'd recommend also replacing your struts - you can either go with the Koni Inserts (more $$) or the KYB AGX struts (less $$).

Once you do that, get some wheels and tires (check out www.subydude.com for lots of well priced and nice wheels - I just bought some Tarmac IIs from there the other day).
