my friend wants to get a 240 and mod it out but the only problem with the JDM SR20DET is the fact that it won't pass smog

miata's a good driving car and pretty good on gas.

even though they're not that fast they will last forever.

That's exactly what's wrong with the 240sx. There is NO potential in the KA unless you go FI, and the only other option for power is the SR20 which is even harder to pass smog.

As for the miata, my sister's boyfriend loves them. He owns like 3 at a time. Incredible car, but extremely different characteristics than a WRX. He used to own one, so he's pretty good at comparing the two. Though, now his daily driver is a SE-R. Just for a daily driver, that actually might be more practical just due to the miata's tiny size.

I had a 1991 Mazda Miata...... I would compare it to driving go-karts. I had so much fun with it in the mountains. My overall experience with the Miata: Cheap to maintain, reliable, and tons of aftermarket parts available.

i've never owned or driven a Miata, but i do have a Civic hatch (93)...from the perspective of a Honda hatch owner, i say go for the Miata. the EG/EH/EK hatches are fun little cars that have most of the characteristics you mentioned (small, light, cheap, swappable motors, hauling capacity, fuel efficiency, auto-x capable, etc.), but there are a lot of teenagers who drive them. this results in two things -- 1) the rice factor and 2) high theft rate.

get the miata!

And no RWD fun with the civics

I think I'll be getting one in the few months to come. I'll probably be getting one for $3-4k, adding some suspension stuff and rims to it, and calling it a day.

Dude posts that he's thinking about getting an under $4G beater and you tell him to go out and buy an almost new $20,000 car and have shiv work it over?

perhaps you should quit chasing old ladies and get a clue....

fun little cars. My coworker had one. bone stock, but its so small and light and it would've been a nice little project car.

At thunderhill this weekend there were several miatas in group 1&2, and if they are properly set up with good rubber they are awesome in the twisties....problem is when they get to the straights and then get overtaken by every other car on the track.

they own the corners though.

Used to have a '93 LE with extras. I really hated selling that car. They're excellent daily drivers and have lots of potential as a toy. I drove PR Motorsports' shop car. ****ing amazing difference after stripping away all that unnecessary stuff like interior. I would have done it to mine if it hadn't been the LE. Only time I didn't like mine was going up steep hills.

Check out www.miata.net for more miata info....

I would recommend getting a 94-96/7 as it has the slightly larger motor (1.8 vs 1.6), larger brakes, and better chassis stiffening/bracing. Also try to get one with a lsd instead of an open diff if you plan on doing any autox. You can find out what the car came with in terms of a diff by getting the vin and calling the mazda customer service 800 number and asking them.

If you do get one, I highly recommend getting some sort of roll protection (not style bars). You can find the different ones available on www.miata.net.

should be an enjoyable drive as long as you are not addicted to the acceleration crack pipe.
