What do you guys think about miatas?
Hey guys,
Well I'm thinking of buying a miata sometime soon, so that my WRX doesn't get as many miles, as I drive a lot. Also, the difference in gas milage could help me save some money as I'm hoping the miata would get a little bit better mpg than the wrx. However, this miata will also play the role of a weekend autocross warrior.
I'll be looking towards a 1991-1996 or so, $4000 or less. I've found many that seem to be in good shape, but I could always run some maintainance through them.
What do you guys think about miatas? Are they reliable? Do they handle as well as people say they do? Anything else I should know about them (maybe what years not to get, problems, etc)?
TIA
Oleg

My only problem with Miatas is that I don't fit inside with the roof on.
Apart from that I'd probably be doing exactly what you are suggesting, great handling, open air and 30+mpg is a good thing.

Buy a 240 or a Civic hatch. Much cheaper, huge aftermarket with great potential for build up and probably the same maintenance since it'll be a weekend warrior. 240SX+JDM SR20DET=killer drag/drift potential Hatch+K20/H22/B18/B16=auto-x or highway killer if you throw a turbo on

w3rd, you need to bolt the seat bottom right to the floor
I think the Miata is a great idea...
There seems to be a big miata community, and people have done all kinds of swaps and mods on those things. The parts are cheap, the base car is cheap... sounds like lots of fun for a project car.
And the things corner like a freakin go-cart.
Good luck,
M
