If whatever vehicle you're driving currently uses halogen lamps, you can't just replace them with HID lamps. Your easy option is to use premium halogen lamps. There is improvement with the best ones but none will be as good as factory HID lighting.

See Daniel Stern Lighting for recommendations and explanations about why retrofit HID lighting is not as good or as safe as original equipment. Retrofit kits will be brighter but not necessarily better in all cases.

See my previous post. I'm using Sylvania Silverstar Ultra. They are brighter and whiter than OEM halogen lamps but nowhere near HID. If you check Daniel Stern's site, he explains all of this. He carries the Sylvania Osram replacements, which are supposedly better than most bulbs you can find at Kragen, Chief, AutoZone, etc.

I purchased my Silverstar Ultra lamps from an eBay seller. I'm happy with them. The improvement is noticeable but not huge.

If you live in an urbanized area, HID lights are total overkill. All you'll do is **** off oncoming traffic or whoever is in front of you and glances at their rearview. HIDs are good if you live in the middle of nowhere with no street lights and light traffic.

+1 for upgraded bulbs

The Silverstar Ultra lamps are even brighter than regular Silverstars. Supposed to last longer, too, although my regular ones lasted more than two years and I drive with low beams on every day (not just daytime running lights). I don't remember what I paid for the Ultra on eBay but it was less than $50/pair for 9007 lamp style.
