1st gear feels like 2 rough "clicks"' clicks then into gear then sometimes it will be smooth as butter .. same thing repeats on the other gears sometimes..and when i drove back to the lot ..i drive to put it in reverse..and it went in alittle ...brought back to neutral ,let goed of the clutch...then it went it roughly..i dunno doodes

RSXs your whole life? How many years can that be? heh... the WRXs tranny definitely is notchy, and the RSX is definitely smooth (integras really are). I've been drivin my 05 for 7 months now, and I've gotten used to it. It's got its own characteristics and it doesn't bother me a bit.
My first car was a '85 Corolla GTS, yes an AE86, and it had a great shifter that went directly into the tranny.
When I got my '91 Integra (crashed the Corolla), I hated the shifter/clutch. It was smooth but not as "direct" as the Corolla. The clutch hooked up in a strange manner too. People who drove my car even said it was weird.
But you get over these things.
After you drive it for a coupla weeks it'll all feel "normal".
BTW, the only thing I miss from my Integra is the moon roof.

1 nice thing about subaru trannies are that the shifter goes directly in the transmission... no cables like front wheel drive cars- the only tranny i enjoyed that was cable is the integra type r-
that may/may not be what you sensing as different also-

The first year RSXs (type s) had screwy shifting and grinding problems... just read around some of the RSX forums. The Suby tranny definitely feels more "like a tractor" transmission...a little clunky, and first gear might as well not have a synchro...
Just the nature of the beast...
