Subaru Baja Turbo for 2004

I got this off of the autonews.com website.

Subaru pumps up the Baja with a turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine. Sales begin this fall.

They'll be showing it at the New York Auto Show This coming week. No word on pricing yet.

Is that 2.5 liter engine the same as the WRX STi engine??? As we all know the American Sti has a 2.5 liter Turbo engine. Just curious, let me know.

Yes, it's just tuned differently (same as the turbo Forester and eventually Legacy).

They're underpowered (now) for a car that weighs 3500 lbs and too expensive (the cheaper Baja Sport kinda remedied that). I've seen a few on the street, and there's one in my parking lot at work every day. I'd say it was definitely a failed advertising campaign for a car that can't have a huge demand to begin with (though the original concept had a turbo, which was cool).

Here are the specs from the brochure:

210 HP @ 5600 rpm
2.5L Intercooled and Turbosharged boxer engine
Sportshift feature (automatic only)

No word on price yet.

y would anyone want to put a boxer engine in a truck?
does the porsh suv has a boxer engine as well?
kindda wired cuz boxer engine lowers the center of gravaty, but it's kindda pointless in a truck and suv
it might just increase the cost for nothing

ahhh, well subaru doesn't build anything besides boxers now. and in case you didn't notice the baja is not exactly a truck. baja, forester, and impreza share platforms. who cares what porsche does?? don't get me wrong, i love porsche. but subaru is a fairly unique auto maker. as far as increasing the cost for nothing, thats not true. it would increase the cost for subaru to put anything BUT a boxer in their cars as of right now. who knows, maybe in future years they will employ the use of a different design. but as of right now, only one other company uses boxers, and they make one hell of a car!!
