the wrx will out handle the srt-4 without a doubt, but if i recall correctly, neons are actually quite competetive autocross cars.
i used to own a 04 wrx wagon untill it was totaled by a red light runner, and have since been looking into the srt-4, since i no longer need 4wd (I can take my g/f's jimmy to tahoe now). not a bad package, low 14's 1/4 mile with an avaerage driver and comes stock with 17" wheels. shoot, it dynos the same, if not more, horse power to the wheels then the wrx does crank. cheap to mod too. will miss my wrx, but im sure i'll enjoy the srt-4 once i buy it. to bad it's fwd.

This has been re-hashed over and over. Stock the SRT-4 will destroy a WRX in acceleration. As wrxless said, the WRX will take the SRT-4 by a car length or two off-the-line but after you shift into 3rd, the SRT will destroy the WRX.
In terms of handling stock, the SRT has the edge. The SRT comes stock with 17's and a more aggressive tire than the WRX. The SRT comes with 205/50/17's "performance" tire stock. If the WRX comes with RE-92's which are an all-season mud and snow rated tire. If the WRX is fitted with 17's and equivalent tires, the edge goes to the WRX.
At the track, it depends on the layout. On short tight courses, the WRX should beat the SRT. On longer courses with sweepers and more open turns, it would be very close. I'm guessing that the SRT would beat the WRX at Laguna Seca and the WRX would beat the SRT at Sears Point.

Yeah but the srt-4 is a Dodge...ha ha Dodge.
You may get afast *** car...fastest ever FWD car right? But, you're car's gonna break every other month! Plus, I'm sure the regular Dodge depreciation will hit you hard too. I hate Dodge. My friend owned a Neon ACR (or whatever that autocross one was) and didn't even take it autocrossing...it had a cracked block after 3 years even though he took it to the dealer every 3K for service. Dodge sucks *****!
...I'll take a Viper though

is subaru any better? must i mention the tranny? not only does it break, but in most cases, subaru won't cover it under warranty. then there's also the paint chipping issues. i've read threads here about peoples trannies breaking within 3 months. my windows were squeaking in under 6000 miles, i know this because it was hit just after the 6000 mile mark. i read up and saw that many people had window squeaking problems, and some were so bad that the actually left light scratches on the glass. but then again, nothing is perfect right? as far as dodge sucking, i wouldn't know cause i've never owned one, but the wrx. problems like those mentioned above are something i would expect from a used car, which is exactly why i wanted to buy new, to avoid things like that. i'll take my chance with dodge and let you know how it turns out.
