STi vs. EVO 8
I have a 2005 Wrx and am thinking what would be the best upgrade to get a 2005 STi or an EVO 8. I love my Wrx but i just need to upgrade to a better car. I test drove an STi and loved it but felt the same towards the EVO 8. I know the STi has more power from the factory, but could not really tell the difference between the 2. The thing is that the EVO 8 seems to be cheaper to upgrade and better power gains, unlike the STi. I want to get around 350-380 awhp and it just seems to be easier to achive in the EVO 8 than the STi. Also the STi looks a whole lot better than the EVO 8. I would love to stick with the STi but it seems for performance cost the EVO 8 is the way to go.........If you guys could give some type of advice that would be great.

Troll around on the evolutionm.net forums for a while and see what people complain about.
Also consider the quality of your WRX and how many problems it gave you (or didn't give you). You can expect the same build quality from the STI. It also seems like most Suby owners always hear about something going wrong with a feind's/acquaintance's Evo. But you should also consider the source of information.
That is my unbiased perception.

I would get an STi over an EVO any day just based on build quality alone, and not to mention that Mitsu is in huge financial trouble and it truly reflects on the cars they build, not just the EVO.

New? EVO.
Used? STI. '05 is the best year (best resale) and best looks...
I sell both ~ Build quality and resale much better on the Subaru. EVO the better looker and needs less of a driver to find 9/10ths then the STI.

imo go with the sti. I too own a 05 wrx and just sold my 03 evo 8. Let me tell you, the car ate gas like nothing and the alternator took a dump at 18k miles. Also the fuse blew to the battery. Mitsubishi is not known for their quality. Idk how good subaru is since I've owned it for only a few days. But I always learned that mistubishi's don't make good cars unless it was the 1st gen eclipses.

For a daily driver I'd personally get an STi. But get whichever one you like. There's plenty of people that would take the STi over the Evolution, and vice versa.

Coke or Pepsi?
Intel or AMD?
PS3 or Xbox 360?
Safeway or Albertsons?
Colt or Smith & Wesson?
They both have to share the podium. If there was a real hands down winner, this question wouldn't pop up once an hour. I can't think of any other two sports cars from different manufacturers the were so close in comparison.

Thanks
Well i have to get a couple things taken care of my car like put the stock DP back on and get the Check Engine light fixed for free then trade it in for the 05 STi, i went and test drove them both this past weekend and thought the STi was everything that my WRX is but better. The EVO had ugly tailights, wing etc Also the one of the EVOs i test drove didnt come with a cd player speakers and couple of other things. I guess thats why the STi grab me. Subaru doesnt have alot of options but its already loaded so its looks like the STi is the choice. Theres a couple of them for sell in Jax, Fl to look at. Also just one question is there anyway to plug the holes on the trunk cause i really hate that wing.
I'm in the same situation as you. I test drove a new evo 9 and a 2005 STi and liked the Sti better.
The STi is better in every aspect except that it feels alittle heavier. The evo also felt like it was alittle faster but it might have been the turbo noise that made it seem faster.
I am looking for a 2006 STi with the 0% interest. The evo is a great car but the STi seems better for everyday driving.
