If you're going based purely on performance and upgrade-ability I would buy the Evo. If you want something that is a little nicer inside, has to last you a while, and doesn't sound like a honduh with a fart can, I would buy the STi.

Most of us are largely drawn to performance but unless it's purely a second car, you're still going to have to spend some time in the car, it might as well be comfortable. Evos are amazing performance for not a ton of money, but it's still based on a 10k sh*tbox from a less than reputable company.

+1. I love the Evo just as much as the STi, but I'll take the one with the reliability behind it.

both are great cars to drive.

However, if you put same amount of money to modify, evo will be faster no matter what. However, the DSM mentality makes most EVO owners cheapasses or lowballers on already low priced parts.

Evo cant even make a u-turn on a 3 lane street. Plus STi looks and i think even performs much better...might not be quicker but more reliable.

Judging by his 4 posts and the age of this thread, I think it's safe to say he did not buy an STI.

I had the same dilemma. I was choosing between an '06 STI and a '06 Evo IX MR. After driving both and taking many factors into consideration, I chose the Subaru.

As mentioned before, Mitsubishi is in big financial turmoil. The interior quality of the two vehicles, I admired the Subaru more. I'm also a fan of the blue and black interior. The STI I found more comfortable for driving, the Evo was pretty damn stiff.

STI for me. It's your choice though. Whatever you like in looks, ride and most importantly -- PRICE.

Definetly the STi. Now if you're talking about an EVO IX that's a little tougher. 05 STi FTW

I don't have any experience with Evos, and just half an year with older WRX.. But from what i have been reading ever since i became interested in cars big time - i would take STi to an Evo. Build quality is something not to turn your back on, and of course the financial trouble that Mitsubishi has..
From the way either car has made me feel - each STi can but a big smile on my face, where the only Evo that i have liked totaly is the EVO6...ever since that model i am so excited to look the front of an Evo, but if i go to the back.... but this is still up to the individual's taste..
Well, it is Impreza forum here, so you gonna see a lot of cheers for these machines.. Just dig your head in all the different forums, Subaru's and Mitsubishi's and read, read, read.. Someone already gave that option. That would be my choice if i was in such dilema.
For me, STi would be the answer to your question every single time, but just do the proper research and make yourself happy :}

Get the evo....

this is my rationale. I really enjoy driving cars. So far I've owned 4, from 3 different manufactorers. It's interseting to see how different cars feel and drive. For sure in my lifetime I will own an evo, if for nothing else but sheer curiousity.

If you're asian havn't you ever wondered what it's like to be white? Or if you're white havn't you ever wondered what it's like to mexican? And so on and so on...

That's my view of cars as well. People stand behind their brand and car with a lot of pride, just as I view racial pride.

You've had a WRX, an STi is an upgrade to the same car but the EVO is an entirely differnet car all together, it may yield similar results but it's a completely different thing all together. I have a j-spec gc8 right now, when it comes time to upgrade, I'm sure as hell not buyign an STi. Not sure what yet, but I doubt it'll be another subaru. I say take this as an opporutnity to open your horizons and experiences.

Either way you can't go wrong.

EDIT*

Wow this thread is old.
