Out of frustration you are completely missing the point, which must be taking a great deal of effort on your part because the point is plain as day.
We know the Mustang is not going to be killed soon. Ford is scheduled to replace it with a real sports car based on a modern chassis for 2005.
GM management killed the Camaro by letting it become outdated.
When owners and potential owners complained about the ancient design, GM claimed that the car was doing just fine and DID NOT NEED to be updated.
They stated that as long as the Camaro was faster than the Mustang it would always have a market. Rumors that they were discontinuing the car circulated for years, as early as 1999 in fact. GM did not officially admit they were killing it until the end of 2001.
When outraged fans demanded to know why....GM claimed that declining sales were responsible. But sales only declined because they allowed them to decline, because they let the car become outdated.
Don't wait, or it's too late is the point.
Hopefully Ford understands this lesson, even if you do not.

Obviously you don't seem to understand the point at all which is even more unbelievable. I think Ford gets it much more than you ever will. How long has the Mustang been in production??? How much have Mustang sales slipped in the past couple of years due to what you call an outdated chassis?? I can answer that for you. Sales have not decreased at all instead they have increased recently on the Mustang so obviously their is no immediate need in Ford's minds to update this car since it has no real competitor right now. If sales were slipping then your point would be a good one but your point has absolutely no relevance in this matter. I hope that I wrote this in a very simple way that you makes it very easy for you to understand. Even though Ford is replacing the aging chassis on the Mustang for next year the current one is still selling very well. Please let me know if you still have trouble understanding a very simple point!!!!!

Sometimes I wonder how it is that domestic car companies like Ford can be so arrogant and obtuse, allowing the imports to eat their lunch time and again, while apparently learning nothing.
And then you come rolling up (in your Supra!?
) and provide the answer. Namely: That there's no helping fools.
As to your questions:
How long has the Mustang been in production??? >
Almost 40 years. (1964 I think) But then, the Camaro also began in 65 or 66 and so also lasted for 40 years. So.....
How much have Mustang sales slipped in the past couple of years due to what you call an outdated chassis?? >
Have you forgotten that you yourself admitted that the "Cobra did not handle well." ? But now you are pretending to dispute that fact?
But then you also claimed to not be "defending the Cobra by any stretch of the imagination". So, what exactly are you doing? Other than being blatantly dishonest with your rhetoric.
As for Mustang sales....they have gone up and down many times in the cars 40 year history. Sales were so bad in the 1980's that Ford came to within a hair of replacing it with a Mazda. Oh how quickly they forget!
If you want to pretend that the sales of the WRX, the Evo, the 350 Z....cars that were not even available to Americans a couple years ago, are no threat to the Mustang...go right ahead. I only hope for the sake of Ford workers and stock holders that no one making decisions for the company is that BLIND.

I did infact say that the Mustang doesn't handle well and I stand by that. All I am trying to say is that for what it was created to do the current Mustang does a good job of it. It always seems that whatever forum you go on people cannot be objective and are so overly biased it is rediculous. To be totally honest I hate Amercian cars and have always owned Japanese but that doesn't mean that I can't give credit when it is due to an American product. As I have said many times on here I think the Sti is a great carfor the money but I dont think that it should be compared to the Mustang. They are two completely different cars with totally different purposes. I think the new wave of Japanese sports cars such as the 350Z, the Sti, the G35 coupe and the Evo are all great cars but not direct competitors of the Mustang. I don't know anyone that has owned Mustangs their whole life that would consider any of those cars as an alternative to the Mustang. Mustang owners as well as Camaro owners are very brand loyal and don't seem to stray to other brands like you and I might. Its the same thing as BMW and Mercedes Benz owners. I worked for Mercedes and also BMW for a few years and found these people to be so loyal to what they owned and wouldn't even consider buying anything else. The only thing that I can see killing the Mustang potentially down the road is the fact that many of the owners of these cars are getting older now and the younger crowds that are buying cars these days do not take to the muscle cars like the older crowd.

Your position is a mindfield of contradictions and I really am not interested in wading through them.
For the record: I personally do not hate American cars.
I am an American and want to see American car companies thrive.
Ford needs to update the Mustang to keep it compettitive. They know that and are doing so. Since you obviously concur this argument is really about nothing.
Moving on.

Car Info: Sold my 05 Evo...Carless for a while...then 05' WRB STi whenever lol :(
STi is the Cobras equal at the drag strip and superior to the cobra on the road course and street(until the cobra can get some traction on the launch on the street)
simple as that, as stated by the editors in Hot Rod Magazine..

You are free to believe whatever you want to believe just as I am. The Sti should be the Cobras equal in all areas considering it is close to the same price when you add a radio into the price. When the new Mustang arrives next year we will haveto see a comparison test between the Sti and the Mustang and see what the story is then.

well we know the rest of the story. But don't blame KWSUPRA's silliness on the car. It's not my cup of Java, but it's a good car.
Walking Contradiction
