So I'm buying a used car....
Sup I-club
Here's my situation, I'm a high school student and I need a daily driver(or beater) to get me to school and back, and maybe a few errands. But ultimatley not to many miles a day, I pretty much have a budget of 1500(that's how much I saved up myself, parents made me do it heh).
I have 2 cars I am considering buying, a 1975 Cutless, and a 93 Acura legend.
Today I went and test drove the cutless, the owner is a mechanic so he maintined and owned it for a few past years, but he is not the orignal owner. Plus he only wants $600 bucks for it. The car was in pretty good shape, some rust on the body, tires were fairly good, no a/c and no radio. The car ran pretty good, he said the engine only had 69k miles on it but the odometer read 305k :screwy: , I forgot to ask about that. Also I noticed there is no front turn signal lights? All I saw was the white bulb headlights.
He also said it was stock, everything was stock in the car, which made me feel kind of funny because it's a 30 year old car, so as of now I don't really feel comfortable buying it, so I told him I would consider it in the next few days.
My mother on the other hand has a friend who is selling the 93 acura legend, I believe it has 190k on it, but they are the single owners of it and have mainted it very well since buying it brand new. The woman has only used it as a daily driver from what I understand. She wants 1k for it so I feel if I wait until monday or tuesday to go take a look at it, I could get a better deal then buying the cutlass.
As I said before I haven't seen the acura yet, but it seems like it should be in good shape.
Me being a HS student I think the acura would get better mileage then the v8 cutlass, which I also like more
. I don't really need a v8 in my life, I'm not going to race or anything, I just need a daily driver.
So I-Club, what do you think of my situation?? would you take the cutlass as a daily driver or the acura??? Should I wait and see the 93 acura legend??? or should I take the cutlass???
I'm asking this because this is only car forum I ever go on so I think I can get soom good answers to my situation.
P.S. : are the any 93 acura legend owners on this board maybe??

Personally Id go for the Acura, it has fewer miles (he prolly meant there were only 69000 miles since the last engine rebuild or possibly it was replaced all together).
Acuras last forever (it IS a honda). Plus I couldn't imagine buying a '75 v8 with gas prices rightnow...
That was kind of a ramble...

you can have some fun in the cutty but id go with the acura for daily driving around town. once my dad told never buy a car from a mechanic who knows what ghetto rigging he has done to keep it running. and if something does break down hes more liky to know how to where to look and whatever
Not sure why you're asking this on a Subaru forum.
But, it would be best to take any car you are considering to an independent mechanic for a thorough inspection. If the seller refuses to allow this, that alone is reason to walk away.
Also consider some of the potential issues involved with owning a 30 year old car as your daily driver, such as reliability, availability of parts, and possible difficulty passing inspection. It may look attractive because it's cheap up front, but in the long run it could be very expensive to own.

I had a buick regal and the cutlass is prettymuch the same thing. if it has that many miles on it, it'll likely have some starter problems and oil problems among other things. the acura is a pretty good deal even with that many miles on it and if something breaks, parts are easy to find and won't cost you an arm or leg. plus, there are tons of honda forums on the net that you can check to get help with fixing your problems. you can probably download a workshoop manual so you can do the work yourself. honda shop manuals are so easy. if you can read @ a fifth grade level and match pics with actual parts, you can do it. are you sure you can't find a good used subaru impreza L for sale?

Hmmmmm,
A GM product that was around for the Bi Centenial, the new Disco Trend, and is as long as is is old....
or a daily driven Acura from a freind of the family, just sips the gas instead of taking a gulp, and as easy to put together as a set of Legos.
Tough choice dude
