Question about buying a used car at a dealer
I'm looking at an ad for this Legacy I'm checking out and it says:
Now, since smogging is the responsibility of the seller, they can't impose that fee on me, can they?
Prices do not include sales taxes, licenses, registration, documentry or smog fees

Ok so check it, I spoke with a guy at work that just bought a used car. He said if the car was smogged today (for example) you would have 90 days to register it to avoid getting it smogged. Anytime there is a change of ownership the car needs to be smogged with the exception of if the 90 day rule.
Makes sense? I hope so.

well, smog is the responsibility of the seller, not the buyer, meaning they would have to pay the fees and make sure the car passes smog before they can even legally sell it. I'm wondering if they have the right to pass the fees on to me.

Technically they probably can't line-item the charge, but since there's probably $1-2000 in profit in the car anyway, who cares?

I'm not gonna walk on the car over that. I might try to get them down $500 - $1000 if I can. We shall see. This dealer is closed until Sunday and has been for a few weeks. It sounds like the place is mom and pop and they were "on holiday" based on their website. I'll call em Sunday morning nice and early to see if the car is still available, and if so, the WRX will be taking me there.
