Shifter vibration?

I haven't test driven a wrx yet so I asking pre-wrx questions here...

just wondering if the shifter vibrates when you're driving? (like the civics...)

this is specifically for MT

Well, if you put your hand on the shifter while you're driving, yes you can feel some vibration. If you're asking if it will shake like a detoxing drunk or epileptic, then no, not unless the shifter is loose or the bushings are completely worn out.

Realize also, though that stiffer bushings like in a short shifter kit, will connect the shifter more solidly to the motor and probably transmit more vibration as well...

just curious...what sort of vibration were you getting off of the civic? was it looking funky on the freeway, was it hard to grab the shifter **** or was the shifter hitting your right kneecap?

more like it was looking funky on the freeway...
i usually rest my hand on the shifter (i drive an alero and the shifter doesn't vibrate)
i drove my friend's civic and it was uncomfortable to leave your hand on the shifter

That sounds like some significant vibration! I don't think I have any vibration like that on my WRX Sedan 5-speed w/SPT short shifter. When I had my first car (1969 Austin-Healey Sprite) I remember reading something about avoiding putting pressure on the shift lever when not actually shifting. Supposedly, it could cause premature wear on the gearbox. I don't know if that's the case anymore with contemporary gearboxes, but I'm still in the habit of keeping "hands-off" the shifter when I'm not actually doing a gear change.

actually if you read the owners manual, it also says not to rest your hand on the wrx shifter when not shifting for that same reason.

Yes the shifters do vibrate slighty but not a lot at all. And yes, you aren't supposed to rest your hand on the shifter as it will wear your gears prematurely.
