having a backround in law enforcement i noticed that people with RLD just simply tend to speed more. . . and more often. thats not to say that everyone does. . .just a lot. i'm not here to force anyone into a certain way of thinking. basically these are my opinionated viewpoints. my desire is for people in general to drive more safely...after losing a loved one simply because someone was speeding... u tend to look at driving a little more different...

i also tend to look at this way. "if i were to have a radar/laser detector am i going to drive safer now?"...and i simply feel that having something like that is just not what i would prefer not to have. as for me personally it puts me in a position that i mentally would feel its okay to speed because my RLD will assist me in not getting caught by the police or highway patrol.

nice points everyone, but heres the thing alot of PD's use lasers now so a RLD isnt worth it then because everyone here keeps saying it wont work for Laser cause by the time u get the signal ur hit, so there really not worth it. plus you jsut have to know when to speed, that is what most people dont know they go speeding anywhere you cant do it anywhere or anytime. so I dont think the worth it, speacial if all the cities around you use Laser. just my opinion...

well, in Berkely they use laser detectors and they are a cheap city which means that almost every bay area city will have them and also laser's are cheap to begin with like around 500, so most cities dont even have radar anymore that is why i think its pointless to buy a V1 or passport. i knwo for a fact that most cities use laser now.

here in hawaii i have family in hpd, as well as a lot of my friends.
they use laser. radar is like the dinosaur age. i mean they had that stuff way back in the 50's.probably the only cops using radar are the ones that have cheapskate funding.

for those of you who just absolutely have to speed-

"This first of its kind, active system is designed to detect and deactivate the laser light signal transmitted by police laser. When targeted by police laser, the Laser DefuserPlus immediately sends out a return pulse signal at the same frequency. Simultaneously, you are alerted to the targeting by audible and visual warnings.

Finally...a solution that deactivates the speed measurement ability of the laser gun and gives you precious time to react and safely reduce speed. Installs discreetly and compliments your vehicle's interior. And is completely legal."

um actually i do believe you. basically here in hawaii where our budgets are higher than most police departments we spend more on top notch technology.
our radio system is totally digital. our traffic division uses laser guns. and our police academy ranked in the top 5 in the nation. so here our cops have access to the best technology. with a police department of over 2,200 officers for an island that has 900,000 people u can see that the pd here has a good budget.
hope that helps.

and actually i still don't think that radar detectors are worth the money.
das jus me. . . and my opinion

I traveled from the bay area to just outside LA on 5 this weekend, Rim of the world rocked

The passport helped quite a bit. It was reliably a cop when Ka alerted. Most of the time X was bogus but once it was a local cop in the middle of no where that had gotten off and back on the highway.

I wasn't speeding excessively but it allowed me to go 10-20 above the limit comfortably. Especially at night it is helpful. On a 5 hr drive 15 above can save an hour. To me its worth it.

Later,
John

The results from many government tests show this, the fastest 15% of drivers acctually get in significantly less acidents than the 15% of slowest drivers. I don't obey the speed limit because I don't see a need to, if I can go faster and shorten my journey safeley than I will. Nobody ever looks at the real problem, the problem is that people suck at driving and that a monkey could get a licence. Instead of fixing that wich admittedly takes effort and money, the government just sets arbitrarily low speed limits that noone follows and then gets money for the coffers when cops nab "archcriminals" doing 45 in a 35.
Exactly, it is all just BS, because they are too lazy too make people learn how to drive or get off the road. I speed all the time, but I don't want a radar detector. The way I see it is even if it is the best one ever that detects cops and radar and lasers and everything, it will never be 100% accurate. And if I go to rely on a little blinking box then I will get a false sense of security and speed even more. And that one in 100 times it doesn't work, I will be going like 90 or more instead of the 70 I would have been, or may have even missed an obvious cop, because I relied on the little box instead of my own judgement. I am just afraid it will give me a false sense of security and I will get so totally screwed.

So I would rather just speed withen my margins.
