Porsche carrera gt question

In the top gear episode when they test the carrera gt they mention that its difficult to drive and it takes some time to get used to. I wasnt sure what they meant by that though? The other day i went to the porsche dealership to get a part for my 944 and i saw one in the showroom and wanted to steal it soooo badly! Is the reason its "difficult" to drive because of an extremely tight suspension? Or what exactly is it that made this car so hard for two profesional drivers to get used too?

They were used to driving a Subaru!!! Ya wanna see the car that beat the Porsche's time around the same track??? It is powered by an V-tec Honda engine... may not even need to 'steal' it.

I read something

I read a test drive article on the GT. They said, if I remember correctly, that it had something to do with the super light weight clutch, flywheel, and drivetrain assembly. It's super easy to stall if you don't give it enough gas off the line. So it takes some getting used to. That's not to say it doesn't have enough torque...lol...it's just that you can't ride the clutch. Of course having never driven one, I don't know for sure.

I think they also said that applying too much gas and spinning the wheels out back was a concern becuase it was very easy to do like he said^^^a little too much of something(gas, clutch) makes it difficult to drive. You have a 944? What kind? I am a proud owner of a 1990 944S2, one of 449 imported to America, my car is number 124.

I learned to drive in '80s 911s and 914s; the Carreras have a famously short clutch "throw" that makes them really tough to drive when breaking them in. Essentially you only have one or two inches of travel in the clutch pedal (vs. 3 or more in most other clutches) and within that inch you have to do a LOT of modulation to keep traction and not stall. It just requires a very gentle and sensitive clutch foot, which can be tough to do when all that horsepower is bucking the driveshaft. I haven't driven the recent Carrera but I've driven a 2004 and it had the same short-travel clutch. Handy for racing, not so friendly for the street. The light flywheel and drivetrain would also cause the revs to climb extremely fast when in neutral, making heel-and-toe shifting almost mandatory; that is an advanced driver skill that few people ever master.

If I got to drive a GT, I'd find it hard to drive too....because I'd pass out every 5 seconds.

Its an 87' 944S, i wanted to get an S2 but i thought i was getting a good deal with my car. Turned out i needed to do more work than i had planned (working on a 19year old porsche is not as easy as the scooby's) $15k later....she runs like a **** star (...NICE). After carefully watching the video many times it seemed like thier problem spots were around sharp turns (chicago) mostly. I figured excessively heavy sway bars or something else led to this but i guess i was wrong. I also figured the drivers from final gear would have Heel-toe mastered as they are professionals.

Ive driven 2 and yeah they are a ***** getting smooth at engaging the clutch from a complete stop, I stalled them both the first time. Some people get used to it but it would be a PITA if you had to drive one in traffic/cirt streets for any distance
