New to the scuby

Alright... i am new to the scuby scene. I currently own a 1.8 turbo GTI and have had some great times with the car, but recently it's been giving me some problems. I'm really interested in getting a new car, preferably something faster than what I own now. Just yesterday I test drove a 2005 WRX and loved it, but compared to my 2001 GTI (which has an H&R sport suspension) the handling didnt seem that great. It seemed to have a little more roll in the corners.

Basically I'm interested in how reliable the WRX is compared to something like the SRT-4. I've seen some posts of people on the board that own an SRT and would love some input. The only thing I'm looking to mod is the suspension, and maybe get a chip to enhance the performance... so I'm wondering stock vs. stock how reliable the two cars are.

I realize this has been beaten to death and all, but I've been pretty interested for a while in a Scuby or SRT and would love the input!

Thanks!

If you want reliability go with the WRX. The suspension can be modded on both cars but the WRX will last alot longer.

As far as suspension goes, anything can be made to handle. I have an '02 sedan with swaybars, springs and shocks, and I have minimal if any body roll...with more room to crank tighter for the track.

As far as reliability, Subaru in general has a far better reliability to the Dodge offerings. Neons over the years have ranged from terrible to middle of the road in Consumer Reports. Subarus tend to always rank near the top, and for the most part always get a "recommended buy" from CR.

Besides...who wants to buy a front-driver anyway? =)

Get the Suby, I can tell you right now, it's the best choice. And I'm not biased in any way.

when comparing the 2, you need to compare apples to apples. Your GTI had aftermarket suspension, if you do the same to a WRX, it will out handle your GTI. Plus, get a re-flash and lose your cats and it will be a fair bit faster than a GTI.

I spent years driving around in a modded GTI, and I have a deep respect for them, but a sorted WRX is in a different league.

Haha, the SRT4 is soooo not reliable. C'mon, it's a freaking Chrysler. No, seriously though, they aren't reliable to save their lives. I read somewhere that when(I forget what car mag) they were testing it to do a review, the SRT4 was already having problems. Quality and reliability Subaru>SRT4 hands down.

Sounds like a loaded question....

Subaru all the way. I heard the SRT-4 is going to be dumped by the end of '06, but the WRX still has more years and models to come.

if you're out to build a car that handles well the WRX is a better starting point, FWD is more difficult to get to handle well.

i have driven both cars......and im really impressed with the srt4 s midrange power.....those things can fly......but they are as reliable as the old dodge spirits...the srt4s motor was based on the dodge spirit (i think) and u dont see those around...the spirit was equally fasst to....but the subarus the far better car..but mod your subaru and you are ditched buy...subaru of america.....kiss your warrenty good by.suabru really dosent stand by there warrenty....but dodge stands behind the aftermarket and even installs aftermarket...but hey subaru is so reliable who needs a warrenty
