HELP! s4 or wrx???
If you get the S4 (which sounds like a very tempting offer) be prepared to commit to getting it worked on 3 to 5 times a year; parts and labor will be much more expensive than the WRX. I love Audis (owned an 86 quattro for a while) but they definitely need a lot of tweaking, maintenence and care. My Quattro seemed to burn through its gaskets and seals about twice the scheduled maintenence rate, and had serious underbody rust (Ohio winters).

Sorry...dick.
Anyways...i went out and test drove the S4.
I was pretty amazed, its pretty much as others described, but I had to experience it for myself. The S4 and the WRX really can't be compared. Sure, preformance-wise they arent that far off, but the S4 is certainly in a different class. The interior is plush, nicer than most a4's. Im not usually concerned about things like that, but things like the gauges and leather drew me in. Its dead silent with the windows up, and the ride is comfy (with the windows down, though, you can hear the turbos and the engine growl a bit). But the torque is always there, and it continues to grip, even with considerable roll (pretty much understeer at the limit, but it felt balanced enough that lift throttle oversteer is easily available). On the test drive, I could even get the tires to break free around a corner in 2nd gear. It doesn't have the same rush the WRX does, but the torque and easiness to drive compensates.
I think I'll try to get this S4 if it checks out ok...if not I'll keep looking at more WRXs. Thanks for the advice guys...

I just love the setup: twin fast spooling turbos for maximum drivability copouled to a v6 engine and 6 speed quattro, wow! the only down side is the weight, but think about it as the price to pay for a luxurious solid feeling german cars (once youve lived with that kind of quality you dont want to go back!)
oh yeah, this was definitely true. As nice as it is to have a 6 speed, i felt like i could be in any gear at any time!
