heel & toe and left foot braking?

If you have to heel-toe to avoid upsetting the weight balance to keep the car planted in the corner, and you are driving a public road, you are probably going too fast... If you are heel-toe-ing just for practice and as to just keep the ride smooth and drive-train wear to a minimum, then by all means keep practicing.
I thought we were talking about left foot braking for a manual since the discussion centered on heel and toeing(h&t). Left foot braking(lfb) on an automatic is nice because you have that nice fat brake pedal and a torque converter so you won't shear teeth off your gears. Lfb is smoother but I still say just worry about the h&t for now because if you can't heel and toe, you're missing a basic tenet of driving. Lots of practice, you'll get it. And since we're talking about driving on asphalt in a manual street car with a small brake pedal that's under the steering column and not on the left side of the drivers footwell, I figured it can wait. The lfb I was talking about is used in every form of asphalt racing to to smooth the transition from gas to brake but also to build boost to exit turns faster, avoid brake lock up and load the chassis in a manner that allows better traction on acceleration and better front end traction upon exiting a corner. Aryton Senna seemed to master this first and then Michael Schumacher exploited like no other. That's what I meant and I apologize for being so lazy about explaining myself, but I wasn't talking about power braking which is holding the car with the brake and the tranny in drive pressing the gas and then letting the brake go when the revs won't come up any more. Depends on what you're driving if its really that bad.

I heel toe on every downshift at every stop light at every moment possible (except from 2nd to 1st...I go from 2nd to neutral when coming to a complete stop!) my tranny is @ 90k no problems at all. Stock clutch was still gripping at 76k when I upgraded to Exedy clutch/flywheel. Testament to the benefits of smoother shifting. Left foot braking is great for keeping the turbo spooled and keeping the nose off the grass. Good to practice in an auto. My brother's A class mercedes (he lives in Greece)
has an H-gate shifter like a manual but no clutch and that was where I learned how to "LFB"
Its good to know that there's people who want to learn how to get to most from their scooby...
It is too often that I see teenie boppers driving new STIs/Eh-vo's/SRT4's and dont know WTF theyre doing and on a straightaway no less!!!
Oh well. more parts for me!!!
