The Funny of the Day

I recently joined a website called "Motortopia" (www.motortopia.com) and there is a Cobalt "club" participating there.

So, I vote against this Cobalt and get this PM from a Cobalt owner that reads like this:

"You should sell your STi and get a real car. The Cobalt SS can beat an STi off a roll and pull further away on the top end. Your car weighs 500 lbs more than ours. For $1000 a Cobalt will destroy your STi not only in acceleration but in handling. You wasted your money."

I didn't even respond. I mean, WOW, just....WOW. That PM didn't even warrant a response! Quite hilarious, really.

So what do you guys have to say about that? LOL!

What's even worse is that Cobalt SS owners are worse than SRT owners! It's hard to believe any group are worse than SRT owners.

I've come to determine that it's that they're just pissed off because they should've bought SRTs but made the mistake of buying Cobalts instead. I mean, c'mon, the Cobalt is GM's bottom feeder next to the Aveo. There seems to be quite the presence of "loser denial" amongst the "Slobalt Crew."

My favorite is that they say, "Well, a Cobalt will smoke a WRX!" Yes, yes, so the Slobalt is quicker than a WRX, but it's also a "throw-away" piece of sh*t. Everything is horrible about that car. It's truly only a fraction better than the Cavalier it replaced. So, at the end of the day, that Cobalt owner that beat the WRX owner in a straight line still has a Cobalt, while the WRX owner still has a reliable WRC legend that can actually handle a corner.

At first I wanted to believe GM when they said the Cobalt was a huge improvement over the Cavalier, and when I attended the DC Auto Show last year I was looking forward to seeing how GM's Cavalier replacement had "progressed." As soon as I plopped down into the seat and shut the clanky door, I realized what cheapness had surrounded me. That car just wreaked of cheapness. I wasn't sitting in that piece of sh*t for more than about 30 seconds. The interior panels felt cheap and were flimsy, the cheap plastics didn't fit together well, and it just felt very cheap, sort of like your typical GM car. In fact, my 1994 Camaro has better interior quality than those pieces of sh*t and the interior quality of a 1994 Camaro is horrible, at best.

well first of all knowing that your a camaro lover and you still are smart enough to know they its not the best car over all is something i would like to commend you on! i know a couple die hard chevy guys (my ex-roomate for one) that think their cars are God's gift to mankind! (and i'm well aware that sooby's aren't the most perfect car in the world either...but they're close! lol)

on another note! have you ever looked at the paint job on the slobalts??? their bumpers don't match! i know that when you paint metal then plastic with the same paint it has different shades, but seriously the colbalts are off by like 6 shades! lol just something i've noticed!

for the money i would want it to all match...i'm just sayin

Well, there's no denying that the Camaro is superior to the STi in terms of overall horsepower applications, but that's to be expected with a V8.

As far as handling, it's no contest. I wouldn't try half the things in the Camaro on back roads that I try in the STi.

I own both of my cars for different reasons. I much prefer the Camaro for the daily grind because it's a great boulevard cruiser with just enough handling thrown in to be fun, but when I wanna get it on, it's all about the STi.

I will say this much, though. The STi just doesn't compare to the feeling of driving an American V8 Muscle Car, despite being nearly as fast. In terms of the feeling of power, I'm all about the Camaro. I'd throw mods into the Camaro before I'd throw them into the STi just because I love the overall feeling of acceleration in the Camaro compared to that of the STi. While the STi's acceleration is smooth and gradual, the Camaro just hits you with it all at once. It's just like "sit back and hold on" with the Camaro. But, there are times where I really like that feeling of the "gradual pull" from the STi.

As me to pick a favorite, and I can't. The Camaro wins for the feeling of acceleration, while the STi wins for the handling.

After owning both I couldn't be happy with just owning one of them.

Actually, I did get the "Time Attack" thrown in my face. "Where was the STi when the Cobalt was winning Time Attacks?" Uh, wasn't that "Time Attack" on that ricer tv show? You know, the Cobalt they stripped to a shell, then dumped about $125,000 into?

I know the Dodge 2.2 turbo from back in the day could handel 400hp, but still FWD vs AWD, With 400 hp I'd put my $$$ on AWD.

A 424? Do you mean a 454? Yeah, nothing can take the place of classic American Muscle. It's all about the violence, the sound, the raw power, the smell of gasoline, etc. You won't find it anywhere else except for with a classic American Muscle Car. It's just one swift boot in the ***!

.....But I still love the linearity that the STi provides. Sometimes I just love that gradual push back into the seat and that feeling of "pulling and pulling and pulling." That feeling is most pleasant on a back road in contrast to one swift boot in the *** and the "hold on for dear life" feeling.

funny stuff

The time attack car is pretty incredible though. Was the fastest car there that day, it beat out all the AWD cars. I was really suprised, but a fast car is respectable in my book, no matter the brand.

How true! They're a freakin' joke.

Yeah, props to the little Cobalt Time Attack car. Good job. But see, these stupid ricers think because one car wins a "Time Attack" that every one of them does. It's the same argument from the Honda owners. "I DON'T SEE ANY SUBARUS RUNNING 7s IN THE QUARTER MILE!" Blah Blah Blah....And I'll bet no more than about 5% of those cars running 7s have anything "Honda" in them.

story of when I was car shopping:

it was shortly after the Cobalts came out and I was looking for something sub-$20k sticker price so I went and drove a Cobalt LT coupe...

ehh, not too bad, I was coming from a Dodge stealth (n/a v6, 222bhp, fat as hell) so the cobalt didnt feel better or worse really power wise. after that I was walking away kind of happy and I saw the subaru dealership across the streat and I had time to kill so I went and walked around, looked at a new 05 wrx...didn't even bother to go near the STi "too much money, don't need that much power, just want something to get me places."

anyways a salsman came up to me and I explained everything and he said "well we do have one used WRX on the lot, but its an auto" I said what the hell, why not. Drove it and even getting out of the parking lot I said "ok, to hell with the cobalt"

besides, the Cobalt SS S/C's run like 14's in the 1/4mile, and don't stock STi's run like 12.9's with good drivers?
