Exhibition of speed?!
I wasn't trying to bash the kid, just thought it was quite the contrast to what my friends and I drove in highschool. I think the fastest car one of my friends had in high school was a 91 Maxima v6.
Don't fight it man, my brother is a cop and when you go to court he gets to testify first so when you get up to testify the police officer will have already made it sound like you are at fault. They make it so you have to prove yourself not guilty. . . . guilty until proven not guilty i guess. Just bite the bullet and maybe go to traffic school for it. That will get you off. Good Luck

Excessive Acceleration is a common one around here. We have some stop lights that are packed close together and it seems to be quite the trick to beat more than one at a time. I know countless people that got nailed for it... most get off claiming a tailgate situation with the driver behind them.
Remember, in drivers ed we're all supposed to learn that the car that controls the speed in a questionable safety situation is the car in the rear (everyone else is supposed to drive defensively to avoid accidents, but the guy in the back is at fault).
Just my thought.
I second the thoughts concerning 17yr/olds driving $20K+ cars. Too much power for a first or second year driver, IMHO. To each their own though.

From: Rockland County...NY
Car Info: want a WRX
i know this is off topic but there are young kids mature enough to handle it...then there are others that will scream at cops and ask for more tickets(long story)

I think for all these people that are saying not to fight it or giving all these excuses is just bs. I say go to court and ask the judge what excessive acceleration is defined as. And then ask the cop how fast you were accelerating. I think it is all a judgement call and I think the cop was probably profiling(and there is more than racial profiling) for younger kids. I would use an argument like that. I would assume that in CA(I think that is where you are from) there is probably not a rule set in stone and also it is nearly impossible to see how fast someone is accelerating. You have to radar them at one point, then time them to another point where you radar then then you have to calculate and I can guarantee that no cop is going to do that much to pull you over. I would just ask the cop how to determine acceleration. Chances are he probably won't even know how to. Just my thoughts.

You sure you weren't in Worthington, Ohio?
That sounds like something those bored ****** would come up with. When I was that age, they would ticket me for running stops signs that I did in fact stop for. And what can you do against liars with guns and radios?
Definitely demand to see a definition of exactly what constitutes a so-called exhibition of speed.
And, for giggles, try to keep pace with a cop in his own car, with one of those FOP badges on the rear plate (ever wonder why they're positioned so you see it if you pull up behind them?) Once I followed one to 70 in a 50, then hung back and watched him do 60 through a 35. But he had to stop for a light. When I rolled up behind him he tried to run away on the green - and failed to ourtun an 89 Escort, that must have hurt. He didn't obey the speed limit until he was in his own jurisdiction (Dublin) I followed that pig all the way to the station lot.

Thanks everyone for yout thoughts. My courtdate is in 3 days so wish me luck. I am going to plead not guilty and show up for my court date and let you all know how it goes. To the people who questioned whether or not a 17 year old kid should own a 20k+ automobile I say that if they have the money to buy it, they should be aloud. I was lucky enough to have my grandma and parents split half the cost of a new WRX. I have been working for my dad for 5 years, yes it is for my dad, and yes the pay is under the table, but i am doing the same job as anyone who would have to join the union.(My dad owns a construction company) I set stakes and survey areas so that the scrapers and such know how much dirt to move. This job is not easy, nor does it pay THAT well. I was able to save $12000 over these 4 years and am very proud of my WRX. I dont think everyone that is as young as me with a car as nice as mine has worked for there car, but there is nothing you can do about that. All I have to say is that I worked for my car, and I am proud of it.
You have to wonder, if he was driving a full size Outback Wagon or even a Forrester, would the cop had given him a ticket, or even look twice at him?
I think cops see a WRX and then try to find reasons to ticket. They think they're doing the world a favor by disceplining the "street racers".
I hope you win man. Sounds like that guy was being a ***** or he needed to fill his quota for the week.

sonic yellow doesn't help either.
Nope, might as well write "So book me *******!" across your rear bumper.
Funny thing is, I haven't seen many yellow or red WRX and those I have seen dodging in and out of traffic have been plain 'ole blue, black or silver.
Always sedans though, us wagon owners are too sensible for that sort of thing.

I have a plain-Jane dark green 98 Outback, and cops look right through it.
Its performance is just ordinary, but that doesn't keep me from having fun with it. Same thing with my old Escort, it looks like a forgotten ghost turd (dark gray with complete clear-coat failure) but I run it like a screamer.

To the original poster, I'm assuming you're on your parents insurance? Just curious because at 22, not only would the fuel costs of a WRX kill me, but so would the insurance. Though, it's interesting to note, that the WRX seems to have cheaper insurance than the Acura RSX base model. Talk about not making sense. A 227hp Turbo car costing less to insure than a 160ho NA car? I realize there's alot more to insurance rates than that(I work for an insurance company so I know way too much about it
) but that still doesn't make much sense.
Anyhow, like i said before, i wasn't trying to rag on you I'm just suprised someone can work that much as save that much at such a young age. I used to save alot when I had my job in high school. I made a good amount of money but nowhere near enough to get a new car.
As for me, my 2004 OBS is so much more powerful than my old green Escort wagon that I don't even care that it's not a WRX
and the wagon helps should I ever get a ticket
"but your honor, i couldn't have been driving that fast in my station wagon!"
