Personally I going to go out there and say...
Do it.
Personally, I like the EVO over the STi and WRX (sorry guys) mainly because of its handling. Only thing I at least do not like is the interior and some reliablility issues some are having.

I own a WRX wagon and after driving the STI I would just trade your WRX for the STI.
With the amount of power you can get from that block and still have the tranny support it.
Not to mention the longevity of the STI

Ok, sorry to take the wrong side, BUT you are going to get sharper handling with the EVO. The 4G63 is a proven block that can take massive amounts of abuse. EVO's are easy to get power from and I personally don't mind the way they look. There are a few 450 WHP EVO's running around on factory tranny's with little to no issues, just replace the clutch. If you want it, I say go for it. Check out this thread as well. http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=648108 Might be just for you...

keep in mind, if you trade in you'll have a much bigger payment. it would be cheaper to keep the car you have and modifyit more. but having an evo would be pretty cool also.
Forget Mitsu. I was a Mitsu fan and customer for 2 years after I bought an Eclipse. They voided my warranty after 12000 miles for an aftermarket clutch (since they wouldn't replace the stock one under warranty due to "normal wear and tear"". I lost 2 transmissions, the workmanshp was pitiful, the fit and finish was bad, the paint literally fell off the car, and it deteriorated in quality and value rapidly (13000 in depreciation in 2 years) and the car had no support from the company. Plus Mitsu is voiiding warranties for autoX and any mods on the EVO. After the way they treated me, I forgot about replacing my car with an EVO and bought an STi.
Mod the WRX or buy an STi. You will be very sorry if you buy the EVO.

Yeah, rattles really suck. My 98 imprez had a bunch, but a few dabs of hot glue and some foam tape have solved those. The worst thing about Subaru's is the window design on the doors. Every time I close the doors it sounds like junk. But Mitsu's aren't any better, from what I've heard.
GO FOR THE STi!!
GO FOR THE STi!!
