amen...
Mine is as follows:
I as well as plenty of other people are tired of tuning in every single day to see NASCAR (or another stock car series) plastered onto my television screen at every concievable time slot avaliable. There is nothing wrong with NASCAR itself, but I remember back when this channel was 'Speedvision' and I'd be able to see Touring Car racing during the week, GT or Rally, F1 recaps/replays, Champ Car and tons of other cool stuff like Top Gear/5th Gear, Car and Driver TV, Motor Trend, etc. Now all I see is NASCAR Live, NASCAR Today, NASCAR Nation, NASCAR commercials, occassionally interupted by an ARCA, Dirt Modified or Busch Series race. Sometimes 'Two-wheel Tuesday' is on.. which is alright since it breaks the extreme monotony of the network. I also enjoy 'Windtunnel' as it's about the only time I can hear about news relating to things other than NASCAR. I realize that television is about profit and ratings, but please remember that your core fans (the ones that are or are close to abandoning you) love having a variety of auto racing programming. Constantly beating a dead race with recaps/replays/recap-recap/recap-updating/etc does nothing for us, and only helps out the casual or extreme NASCAR fans who wern't your original fan base to begin with. I've been watching this channel in it's many evolutions and this is certainly a low point for it. I hope that you can help the lot of us out by giving us some variety and quality in your programming in the future.

XenoWolf, those are excellent comments and the type of input that Speed needs to read.
I think that Speed, like other channels, looks for advertising dollars. During WRC events shown on Speed, Subaru seems to be the only consistent company who pays for commercial ads during the broadcast. Not so with NASCAR - lots of dollars spent because they have such a huge number of viewers compared to any rally program or even F1.
I'm just thankful that NASCAR popularity has not made inroads in Europe because once it did, we would never see another WRC, F1, or Le Mans event.
It probably couldn't hurt to write or e-mail Subaru of America (SOA) and tell them how much we appreciate their continued support of rallying on television. This is the kind of thing that their marketing department hopes for - that the people who watch these programs are the ones who are buying their cars!

Good idea. I get Speed Channel off of Direct TV. I'll leave comments for both Speed and Direct TV. In addition to the WRC coverage, Speed Channel (bless them) runs Motorsport Mundial, which is supposed to have some coverage of Rim of the World next month. But we are missing great things like the Nürburgring 24 Hour Endurance race next month that will have a Subaru team driving a special STi Spec C. Everyone should do what thet can to encourge rally coverage on TV. Emails and letters make a difference.
Who is not tired of SPEED CHANNEL??
I Know SPEED CHANNEL is a good about cars, motorcycles and trucks. But I'm really tired of seen NASCAR almost 24/7. I need to wait until sunday that is when they play "GOOD STUFF" while nascar races and interviews are played all week long. I think and I know there is a lot of other good stuff to see on TV than just NASCAR /// WIND TUNNEL. What about rally, drag racing, circuit, auto shows that I know for fact that there is a lot in U.S and around the world of a great quality, also programs where they fix or modify cars; does'nt matter if domestic or imports cars.
Probably we should send mass e-mails to SPEED CHANNEL to let 'em know that everybody is not a NASCAR FAN and let our voice to be listen.

Please see my earlier post.
Dave Despain of Wind Tunnel got so fed up after being deluged with anti-NASCAR e-mails and calls after a similar group effort that he basically asked those folks to shut up about it. Even hundreds of calls or e-mails don't put a dent in the thousands of NASCAR fans and paying TV sponsors. Money talks.
While I'm no NASCAR fan myself, I consider myself lucky to have the coverage that we do for road racing and rallying without having to pay a premium other than cable or satellite fees.
SpeedTV is a business. If the WRC was as popular in the U.S. as NASCAR, I'm sure that a whole ****load of sponsors would step up to the plate with money. When was the last time you saw a Ford or Mitsubishi commercial during the WRC televised events (let alone Peugeot, Sköda, or Citröen, which aren't even sold here). Subaru of America is probably the only reason that we can watch WRC events at all, unless you have a satellite feed from the UK or some other country.
Another way to look at it is that without NASCAR and its sponsorship bucks, Speed might not even have enough money to stay on the air. In a way, NASCAR subsidizes Speed for the programming we enjoy.

I'm boycotting Speed (have been for over a month now), and ya know what, I havent missed a damn thing! So what, 60 cars are going WOT around an oval (or semi elliptical) track for 500 miles....BFD! Nascar has got to be the most boring motorsport of all time.....about the only time I "watch" speed channel is when I am looking at the programming guide....see whats on...and if its NOT NASCAR I may take a quick peek...but very rarely ever stay to watch for any length of time.
GO DISCOVERY CHANNEL! w00t! (actually Discovery even tends to show more *other* motorsports than Speed does.)

I just can't handle televised NASCAR, monster truck meets or other brainless Speed Channel Programming like Formula D or even worse... NASCAR 'necks playing poker.
However, Speed Channel is the place to go for F1 coverage (i couldn't live without that) and rally coverage (WRC).
Realistically, if you want to get something done in broadcasting you have to line up the sponsors to pay for it. Management in all broadcasting is a motley assortment of ******, pimps and thieves who only want one thing... more $$$. You pay, you say.
About the most effective thing viewers ca do to effect programming changes is to write or e-mail the program sponsors or advertisers. Complain to them, ***** at them and start rumors/urban legends about finding body parts in their products.
Still, I e-mail Speed Channel from time to time thanking them for the F1 and WRC programs and other shows like Motorsport Mundial and Winning by Design. It makes me feel better, at least.

Another thought is that even on this message board, there is a variety of opinions on what constitutes 'good' programming on Speed. I like to watch WRC but did not watch much SCCA Pro Rally when it was still being run. I watch F1 and sometimes the Champcar series but not IRL. I would watch some miscellaneous road racing events but not much of the long distance stuff like Sebring or Daytona. Once in a great while I would even watch a little bit of MotoGP bike racing or drag racing but only if it happened to be the Pro Stock class - I don't care at all about Top Fuel. Same goes for drifting, and yet I know that drift events are popular among a sizable number of members on this board. I don't even humor myself that I could put together a programming schedule on Speed that would please even 50% of the viewers while lining up the sponsors to pay for the air time if NASCAR were to become non-existent tomorrow.

what i want to know is how they decide who's going to win the NASCAR race, because they take a bunch of nearly identical cars, and throw some people in them and just go make left turns. granted, there have been some stock car drivers that actually have exhibited talent in making right and left hand turns: the Earnhardt's @ Daytona (I was really looking forward to seeing them at Le Mans
), Jeff Gordon, some others. However, by and large the drivers are not of the same caliber as Sports Car, Rally, and open wheel drivers.

If you or another member would like to create a new thread and topic, I think a NASCAR like/dislike thread would be best kept separate from this one. You could even include a poll if you wish. Might be interesting. Let's keep it friendly among members, though - even on this board we are diverse and have NASCAR fans here, too.
