don't know what kind of money you want to spend, but the WRX is definitely cheaper to mod. There are more effective inexpensive mods you can do to the WRX. My last car was an e36 325i and everything for that car was ridiculously expensive. Short of the supercharger, I don't really know what else you can do to get a significant power increase in the bimmer.

you can do way more to a subaru than to an m3 with the same money into it. i dont know who should have won that race, but if the bmw owner says he got walked on, im sure he did

I raced what I think was a stock E36 M3 a while back and my car is basically stock (intercooler hoses). We ran from 90 to 130 and he probably had 4 or 5 car lengths on me by the time we got to 130.

I screwed up in that I was in 5th instead of 4th at 90 (brain fart). From a stop, stock for stock you should eat them alive. If I was in 4th, I think it would have been close.

As for dollar for dollar mods, I'm sure the WRX is cheaper and easier to mod than the BMW.

The Bimmer engines are making more of their potential power from the factory than a Subaru engine is. This is why the "cheap" mods don't work for BMWs. Once you catch up to that point in your WRX, it gets expensive even for hat. All things considered though, a WRX is cheaper speed than a BMW. It's all in what makes you happiest in your car.

To second ban-suv's: going cat-less (dirty) is a big difference. I would consider this a relatively inexpensive mod on both cars, but you'll see far greater performance gains with the WRX. See the "Babe Magnet" thread if you're curious why anyone would rather have an M3.
