E36 M3 or 2004 STi
I'm so so fuss up right now, with the new STi coming out I'm planning to sell my 95 M3 to get a STi is it worth it?
Which one would you chose: E36 M3 or 2004 STi? Why? I appreciate any of your opinions...negative or positive is all valued highly...
thanks..

1Slow///M3-
I am in the same boat as you. I am trying to decide between an E36 M3, the STi, an '03 Cobra, and even an E46 M3. Money is not really my big deciding factor...it is more of value and what car is going to make me smile the most.
The E36 M3 is probably the best deal because I can pay about $21k for the car and it is in beautiful condition, just not fast enough for me I don't think.
The STi sounds like a rocket and I am sure will be awesome, but doesn't really have the luxury and status of the M3. The two cars are not really in the same league although they probably have very similar drivers....driver's cars.
The Cobra would be a blast to drive, sounds the best, and probably the quickest in a straight line, but has almost zero luxury and status.
The E46 probably has the best of all worlds, but at $52k will be a little bit of a stretch for me and will take the biggest depreciation hit by far...
Hope I didn't confuse you even more. Good luck bro.

Thanks all of you for your opinions. After a night of sleep and reconsideration, I think I'll just keep my M3. I love the comfort it has provided me; also I'm a business person anyway wont really have time to go to the track. Although I know for sure that either one the Evo or STi will difinitely burn me in the street; they lack the brand and the comfort of my old M3; also I think their value wil drop much faster than mine. For example in the next-- say 8 years probably 30K will be much like 6k, mine right now according to blue book with its high mileage (118K) still value around 13K. That says something about it....isn't it?
Thanks for all your opinions...every pieces are valued deeply and helped sooooo much for such a novice like myself. Also, if I were to pick between a STi and an Evo I would also hesitate too.

I really do love my M3. I've wanted one since I was in middle school. But damn, the maintenance sucks. Oh well, that's the price I have to pay for having such a premium ride. My M3 is also a 95 and I still get thumbs up from alot of people. Not bad for a 9 year old car

All those cars you want are all nice rides. Have you ever thought of buying a $20k E36 M3 and turbocharging it? Activeautowerkes of Florida has a nice stage 1 turbo kit (expensive) that will get an M3 into 12 second 1/4miles. This way you'd have the status and comfort of a luxury, but performance of a real sports car. I'd really love to turbo my M3 but I can't afford it right now.

What is the link where I can read more about the turbo?
Thanks,

the new generation 3 kit costs 8,700. With a $19,000 e36 (1995) you'll have a Pimp A$$ car that is fast as hell.
OptimusVelox
$28,000 for a 12 second luxury pimpmobile aint' bad. Last I looked the Sti is gonna cost over $35,000 with tax and markup. Oh yeah, the Sti runs 13 second 1/4 miles. So no, the Sti will not beat the $hit out of an M3.
Or you could buy a 95 325 for about $10,000 and put a $9,000 turbo kit on it and run low 13's or high 12's. Still a nice BMW and still faster than the Sti, with about $16,000 in savings.

im sorry to do this because i am a subaru fanatic all the way but you cant compare a subaru any subaru! to an m3. maybe the older style but not a new one no way. i dont know if any of you have ever raced a new m3 but unless your sub is fast as hell your getting smoked bad. they are 13 second cars stock. complete pimp rides. my good friend has a 2003 m3 with just a cf hood and rims and front lip. he turns more heads than me and i have almost 15k into my car. trying to compare two totally different classes...

get the e36. i like the sti more, but the odds of you acctually getting one is about 1/100000000, theres a waiting list and people camping out by irvine subaru (largest dealer in the world) for the measily 40 they will get. there wont even be one to testdrive, so if your not on a list, your gona wait a year or two. the e36 im sure you can find one in about 10 clicks or less on the internet. its worth the wait, if you have the time. but timing is everything.

If I had to choose 1 car to drive for the rest of my life it would be a modded 95 M3...that has been my dream car for over 5 years...the only reason I bought a WRX over the M3 is b/c I would not be able to afford keeping up with the M3...but its my favorite car, and I do plan on owning one downt he line, and if I was in a financial position to choose either car, I would choose the M3...I have not driven the STi, but still...I would still take the M3, I think its the perfect car...thats just my opinion though...I am not talking down on the STi by any means, its a great car and I would love to own one, but at this point, I personally would take the M3
