Which car manufactures own which?
Daimler owns Smart and Mitsubishi
I think Hyundai owns Kia now
Proton owns Lotus
Honda used to own Rover, and then BMW owned Rover...everybody gave up and Rover doesn't exist anymore...

Go Go Go, MG/Rover still exists, they were bought from BMW by an idependent consortium of British buyers. They are selling cars and even racing and rallying.
And, no, I think Ferrari is too much of an Italian national icon/treasure to ever share parts, but you never know.

Ford has ford, lincoln, mercury, mazda, land rover, volvo, and jaguar.
Daimler Chrysler has Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Mercedes, SMART, Maybach, Freightliner, Western trucks, Sterling trucks, Setra (a bus line), and is "partners" with Mitsubishi-Fuso, Mitsubishi, and Hyundai.
GM has GMC, Chevrolet, Cadillac, Buick, Oldsmobile, Pontiac, Hummer, Saab, Opel, Holden, Vauxhall, EV1 (remember those?), and is "partners" with Fuji/Subaru, Fiat, Suzuki, and Isuzu.

It's funny you mention the EV1. I live near a GM "alternative fuel" research and development facility, and I see several EV1's everyday. GM gave them to the employees as company cars, for real world testing. But, I digress.
Fiat owns Ferrari and GM owns part of FIAT?
So does GM share andthing with Fiat down to Ferrari?
So does GM share andthing with Fiat down to Ferrari?
There are 2 companies in the FIAT corporate empire that produce cars:
1) FIAT Auto: Fiat, Lancia, and Alfa Romeo brands
2) Ferrari Group: Ferrari and Maserati, including Ferrari F1
The GM deal has nothing to do with the Ferrari Group, it was a stock swap with FIAT Auto only. GM owns 20% of FIAT Auto and FIAT owns 5% of GM. FIAT also has a "put" financial option to force GM to buy the rest of the company which they can exercise beginning in 2004, although they currently do not plan to do so.
The 5% stake FIAT has in GM may seem small, but it makes them one of (if not the) biggest shareholders.
