This is a long winded post, so I apologize in advance.
I recently purchased a Carchip. Its a trip logger and an obdII scanner.
This product shells out a lot of data. I was wondering if you could
help and point me to a link which explains the terminology
(see list below)
Or if you would like to explain it. Please do!
Anyways, the Davis Technology Carchip spits out the following data:
Vehicle Speed
Engine Speed
Throttle Position
Coolant Temperature
Engine Load
Intake Manifold Pressure
Air Flow Rate
Intake Air Temperature
Timing Advance
Fuel Pressure
Fuel System Status
Short Term Fuel Trim (B1)
Short Term Fuel Trim (B2)
Long Term Fuel Trim (B1)
Long Term Fuel Trim (B2)
O2 Sensor Voltage (B1, S1)
O2 Sensor Voltage (B1, S2)
O2 Sensor Voltage (B1, S3)
O2 Sensor Voltage (B1, S4)
O2 Sensor Voltage (B2, S1)
O2 Sensor Voltage (B2, S2)
O2 Sensor Voltage (B2, S3)
O2 Sensor Voltage (B2, S4)
Battery Voltage
This time around I logged 5 of the options: Vehicle Speed, Coolant Temperature, Intake Air Temperature, Timing Advance, and Fuel System Status . At the end of this post is a link to those statistics.
The data displayed is my trip from San Jose to Walnut Creek. Approx. 50 miles.
FYI: The Car these results belongs to are my 2002 WRX, stock engine, no power mods, no suspension mods, just brake modifications.
Um so here are my questions:
What is timing advance? Why is it important?
At what temperature should intake Air be at?
At what temperature should coolant be to run optimally for a car?
What is engine load? Why is this important?
Throttle Position.... Um I have no clue. Anyone?
Fuel Pressure... Um why?
Of the above data, which would be the top 4 to choose? What would be rank #1, rank #2, rank #3, and rank #4?
Which one is the least important?
If you feel like spending the time to analyze my car data and tell me "anything" about it, that would be awesome.
This is a good learning experience and any info that anyone contributes would be awesome!

Sounds like to me it is just dianostic data that you can read and chart. Have you ever thrown a cell before? Maybe then, you might see something different. Trying using it next time you change your oil or when your really low on gas and see if there is a difference. The tool didn't come with any kind of brake down? Cause if you have no mods or anything like that, I am led to believe the data you are reading is saying out of all these things that I checked your car is fine.

Unfortunately, the tool doesnt have any explainatory information for the terminology. There wasnt any thing to explain what this means.
Im pretty sure there is no problems with my car, no "cell" has ever been thrown.
The carchip also display error codes, but it hasnt given me any. Im guessing my car is "okay".
Reading some of these charts are kinda confusing because well, i dont understand the terminology means.
