New fangled "CARCHIP"

I saw this new gadget on TechTV last night, called the CarChip. Anyone see this thing yet? It's kinda like a portable logging device like the ODB tool.

It just connects to your car's data port and you leave it in while it logs all kinds of data. Then you pull it and download it to your PC. More of a logger than a real time device. Sells for like a $179 retail. What do you guys think? Hookey or kinda cool?

Car Chip

I met these guys at SEMA and they hooked me up with a preproduction unit to try out and it is cool. I used it at a track day at Infineon Raceway and it was way cool. I recorded boost, braking and acceleration G's and speed around the track. You can plot the info in many different ways and I was able to see how hard I was braking into each corner and how hard I was powering out and with how much boost. I leave it plugged in now and it records as I drive and every once in a while I will download the info to see how the car is running. It is amazing how much info obdII actually gathers, like the braking and acceleration G's and stuff. It's almost like a "Black Box", if your in an accident you could find out if you braked and if so how hard. Anywy, you can also retrieve CEL codes and reset the CEL. It works almost too good for thr price. I can order more if people are interested and perhaps we could do a group by.
