That setup is better than what I have at home, and if it's your first surround sound setup, would be a great setup with decent sound. It's a fine match to the HK. Again, if this is your first surround sound setup, this is just fine.

I always give customers this advice: buy whats in your budget. There is no reason to break the bank for gear. how big is your room?

that's the other one. The amazon price is $404. My budget is $500 for speakers. I don't have the measurements of the room handy right now.

This isn't my first, but I replaced gear that was bought in the mid 90's.

My setup:
Samsung 40" LCD 1080P LNT4066F
HK AVR247 (all HDMI 1.3)
PS3
Infinity 3.1 (don't have the model but they were some of the nicer sets back in the 90s)

$500?

The harmon kardon would be a good setup as well, but I would take a look at the cinema setup from paradigm.

http://reviews.cnet.com/surround-spe...-30789857.html
Retail $550 (I know you can find it better. Call the 3 or 4 dealers in our area)

http://reviews.cnet.com/surround-spe....html?tag=also
Retail $799 (You might find it less at the 3 or 4 bay area dealers.)

www.paradigm.com to look for dealers.

So, the cinema 70 system easily beats the other two systems from amazon. The 110 system would be KILLER,and is easily a steal at it's MSRP, but if you can find it for less, even if it's used, you'd be better off.

But again, the harmon kardon system more than likely be the better of the two off amazon, but for a $500 you can get something really nice from a paradigm dealer.

sweet that's the kind of info I'm looking for. The $500 is a self and semi-wifey imposed limit.

find the bay area dealers, give them a call. It worth a short wait if the price is right.

Man that's sweet looking (and even better sounding I'm sure). The only thing questionable is the huge center on top of the flat panel from an aesthetics standpoint. Kinda takes away from the "sleekness" of the panel. It'd be low, but it would be nice to squeeze that center on to the glass shelf just below the TV.

Crazy nice nonetheless.

This is exactly the reason why I tell folks to set a budget and buy within that budget. Cause taking out a loan for HT gear is stupid.

I'd go for the cinema 70 setup. Just give them, or the guy in Dublin, a call and see who's got the better deal.

Cinema 70 x 4
Cinema CC x 1
Cinema 70 CT Sub x 1

So, otherwise, the Harmon Kardon setup was probably more ideal than the polk one.

I told him the same thing. BUT, he took out an education loan, you know, for school. Well his parents are paying for that, so he decided to get that stuff. At that point I didn't complain much.

And what you can't see are the 2 bookshelfs in his room, the additional reciever and the two rear 180* speakers mounted on the wall...
