I tried atkins when i was a senior in highschool. I weighed in at 350lbs
and decided to eat 0 carbs for 6 months and start running with my marine corps brother because i was tired of being the fat guy that got made fun of and couldn't ask a girl on a date. I started at 1/8mile one week, then 1/2, then 3/4miles etc until i hit 15miles a day! yes 15miles (75 a week). I dropped to 150lbs in a year. Then i joined the army and had the same low carb habits and dropped to 130lbs in bootcamp and they forced me to go through the chow line X3 extra times... so yes it works and works well. I slowly gained it back in my 4 year enlistment with little 4-6mile runs during the week and beer and mexican food on the weekends.
till i hit 200lbs I went back on the diet before i went to sniper school....VERY BAD IDEA i got extrememly fatigued and lost 40lbs in a month. I actually passed out cold during my graduation ceremony and they had to feed me complex carbs through a straw in my nose for a week.
Now im out and need to drop a good 40lbs to be where i feel better about myself because i've put a lot on and my BP is a tad bit high.
I never liked the word "fat"... i think if you feel good about yourself then you're fine! Hell you can die in a car accident tomorrow who cares if your blood pressure is high, you know what im saying!?

I went on the a modified atkins, I think they call it the south beach diet now. What I did was not eat carbs, well except for veggies for 5 days. then for 2 I would work in some carbs like whole grain bread or somethin like that for breakfast. repeated this again for the next week.
I was amazing that I lost almost 15 lbs. in these two weeks. but more than that I saw results. Fatigue was a factor, but if I did it again I would sleep better and excercise a bit more during these two weeks.
What this did was get the pounds of quickly and modivated me to continue. It also changed my the way I ate. so from then on I at good carbs in the morning, never after lunch. this went on for another 3-5 months and I continued to drop weight. at this point, fatigue was not bad because fo the carbs in the morning.
yes, it works. but i think a long period without carbs is bad.

about six feet 155 lbs. so, no. Mountain bike, road bike, and run a lot.
Hey Sisqocqk, it is awesome that you were able to lose that much weight, but be very careful about having your weight fluctuate that much. It isn't good for you. Some of your internal organs pay the price for that. Your internal biochemistry changes so much, it puts your body into shock and it takes time for them to aclimate.
Good job, though!
