yet another good road
This one is tight and only one lane! From I-580 east in Livermore- take North Livermore Ave exit, head north (turn left). Follow this road all the way to the hills in the distance, a straight, somewhat bumpy stretch. You'll come to a 90 degree left turn way out in the country, follow it (now Manning Rd). In about 1/2 mile turn right on Morgan Territory Road. This road will climb the backside of Mt Diablo, and in about 1/4 mile it necks down to one lane. There are lots of blind rises and corners so watch for traffic (rare). You'll rise high above Livermore and be able to see the Delta and the SJ Valley, then you'll drop down into Clayton, east of Concord. Turn left to find Concord or turn right and you'll end up in Brentwood. We used to go out there at night and run "hillclimbs" against the stopwatch.
Watch for rattlesnakes. I stepped on one up there one night.

CHP?
I lived out near there for many years (used to take out Detroit Iron street racing my VW out there), never saw a CHP.
Things change though.

That used to be my commute road... From vasco to Santa rita, nothin but backroads
That Morgan territory road is sketchy tho, REAL blind turns and occasional soccer moms in their urban assault vehicles...be careful!

I used to have to commute from Hayward to Antioch and it is faster to drive Morgan Territory on Friday afternoons (believe it or not). There are several problems though, the tarmac isn't good over the hill and comming down to Marsh Creek (another pretty good ride!) and I have almost been hit a couple of times by minivans and the like comming over the crest of the hill. I have also seen at least two flat tires in the park part of the road and several times people just stop their cars in the middle of the road to take a picnic or something....are there nude women up there
