Wrench help..Rear half shafts
I replaced my rear diff. All went well. The axels seemed to snap into place properly. Off for a test drive. I return lift car for a little inspection.... Hmmm. both axels seem to move in & out of diff. not like a lot, but not locked into the unit. I understand that there are c-clips that hold the half shafts in place. My question is why would they (the half shafts)come lose. Are they supposed to move in & out like that ? I'm paranoid to drive it so its sitting on jack stands till I find some solution. Thanks for some help...Vince..

Well after a few phone calls this morninig, I learned that the rear diff that i installed (Code TR) only has a C-clip on the passenger side & the Drivers side floats. So I removed the diff to confirm this. Sure enough. So Iput it all back together Went out and put 100ish miles. No leaks or strange noises. I think that I will need to get a different set of rear axels but the only issue presented seems to be that the '02 WRX Passenger side shaft has the c-clip groove at a different point of the insert section than the JDM car that this rear come from. Its all together & working though. I'm not positive iof the final drive but 65mph happens at 3100RPM in 5th gear.Makes for some quick shifts.

Ummm
if the rear ratio changed, you need to match it with the front! or else your center diff is going to break!!!

Oh yeah sorry Thats how this whole project started. i blew my stock WRX tranny. I replaced it with A jdm Version II 5 speed. The car will auto-X like a champ with these ratios. After i put a few hundred trouble free miles I'll check out some of the local twisties with multi switch backs.
