All of my fishies just died!
I was changing the water for my goldfishies today like normal. I go and watch a movie, come back, and find that almost all of my goldfishies are floating sideways and dead!
Two of them are still alive, but just barely. I think they will be dead by morning
I had these goldfishies for a good 2+ years (some as old as 4), and all of a sudden, boom, all dead
I heard on the news something about the PUC or water department or whomever recently adding chlorimine to the tap water now. They also said it could kill some fish, but I didn't realize it would affect them all that badly
Anybody else's fishies die because of this?

I have had that happen before. There was once I was doing a water change on my main tank, about a 30% change. There was a huge storm the day before and it must have poluted the water from run off, as I lost about a quarter of my fish. I went to the local fish store the next day, and they said they had a lot of customers lose fish the past few days while doing a water change.
I would not doubt that something like that happend with you
sorry to hear that, I always hate it when I lose a fish

one fish dying I can deal with, but all of my fishies dying all at once....gonna take awhile to get over
Heads up to anybody who hasn't changed their water yet in the SF, San Meteo, Santa Clara, and Alameda counties before feb 2 whose fishies haven't died yet. Check out the link.

you wanna hear a REALLY odd story?
On chinese new years we went to my grandparents crib. apparently my aunt had bought my grandma a nice Beta fighting fish in a large vase. he looked bored and we decided to give him a workout. so we went to the fair in chinatown sf and won 5 goldfish for the beta to play with. well, we werent allowed to put them into the tank. so i gave them to my friend the next day. the 5 fish i gave him ended up attacking his goldfish. there were 2 diff breeds and they had a gang fight. my fish messed up his bad, so he took them out and put them in another bucket. next morning when he woke up. all the fish i gave him were dead!

Dude you should always be adding Chlorine/Chloramine neutralizers no matter what. They change up their additions of these depending on certain factors.
Tap water has never been in a tank of mine for just this reason!

Chlorine in water will dissipate to open air if left uncovered in a pot or pan for two days. This is the method I used to use when I had smaller aquariums and will work with fishbowls. This is impractical with larger aquariums, though, unless you can spare the use of your bathtub.

I guess we'll have to take extra measures. I use an old brita filter for my tank, then use those pruifying drops. I suppose you could boil your water, then let it sit uncovered for awhile to be extra safe.

How fast do water conditioners break down the chlorine/chloramine/nitrite/nitrate/etc? Is it instant, takes several minutes, several days?
I have a 30 gal tank.

Wow...I can't believe you guys don't de-chlorinate as a rule.
Amquel..if you're using tap water: http://www.enkoi.com/water_treatments/amquel.html
Works instantly.
Also use NovAqua to get rid of heavy metals in the water (mostly copper that's dangerous) http://www.enkoi.com/water_treatments/novaqua.html
Only takes a couple drops/gallon.

I have always used NovaAqua/AmQuel during waterchanges. This was the only time where there was something else in the water from contamination that did some of my fish in
