so sorry to heard.
san francisco has just switch from using chlorine to chloramine during last tuesday 2/02/04
"Chloraminated water can harm fish and amphibians as chloramine passes through their gills and directly enters the bloodstream. To protect fish and amphibians, remove chloramine from the water with treatment products or specified carbon filters. these products are readily available at most pet supply stores and aquarium dealers." SFWD
"unlike chlorine, chloramine cannot be removed from water by boiling, or by letting an open container of water stand to dissipate chlorine gas." SFWD

Amquel..if you're using tap water: http://www.enkoi.com/water_treatments/amquel.html
Works instantly.
Also use NovAqua to get rid of heavy metals in the water (mostly copper that's dangerous) http://www.enkoi.com/water_treatments/novaqua.html
Only takes a couple drops/gallon.

I almost forgot, if you are running a salt water tank, make sure to match the salinity of the water before adding it to the aquarium. Also, add something to get rid of heavy metals. Copper is the worse thing for salt water tanks, especially if you have invertebrates. Copper will kill them very quickly.
