I know there is no spring pin in the 2006+ but what is keeping these from popping out like i have heard they are supposed to do.

I use a pickle fork such as this. I do not know if it is the "correct" way, but I have done it many times and I have yet to even dent a CV cup
FYI there is a circlip on the end of the axle that holds it into the tranny. Inspect it when you get the axle out. If it is damaged or does not stay on the axle properly you should replace it.

What do you mean by half shafts? Do you mean the CV axle?
If you have the male kind which don't have the pin, you can just pop it out with a crowbar or a ball joint separator that they loan out at autozone.

GL man. I've replace all 4 axles on my subaru in the time I've owned it. Every single one of them was a total pita to remove (>100k on my car). PB blaster & heat are your friends.

So I was prying on it, I am just afraid the force I am using I am gonna break something, but it sounds like I just need a bit more elbow grease put into it.
I know about the circlip but when my father in law and I were working on this last night we were afraid we were gonna break something so we quit putting so much force on it and decided we must be doing something else wrong, but with everything everyone else has said and the other websites I am not prying atit hard enought. Anyone have a pic of the cv axel when it is removed so I can see how much I have left to take out.
