good lord, what a rally.
i take back everything i've ever said about Gilles Panizzi perhaps needing to pass on the crown of the tarmac king. the guy is a monster, even in the wet. he schooled Loeb on driving fast in the rain and tire choice so badly that he made the Citroen look like a driver's ed car.
Solberg did amazingly well to claw himself back into fifth place, and earn four championship points. the 0:50 penalty he recieved for leaving service late almost ruined thing for him, but he's right in the thick of the points battle going into rally GB.
i can't believe that the top thre drivers in the championship are seperated by a single point. that's about as tight as i could possibly imagine things being. Wales should be absolutely mental -- Solberg is going to be driving like a madman to win the rally, and the championship, with Loeb and Sainz doing the exact same thing. it's so tight, that they've got to win the rally to win the championship, which is the way racing should be.

Pirelli has historically done poorly on asphalt, except in the rain. for some reason, Pirelli's standard rain compound seems to be a lot better than the Michelein. the only reason that Panizzi and Sainz were able to go well in the rain was due to their making use of a special tire. apparently, it was a slick tire compound that was designed for super cold and ice condition. the Michelein techs actually hand cut a rain pattern into the tires because they didn't have soft enough rain compounds to get enough grip. crazy stuff.

Wow!!!! what a great rally. Very nail biting the whole time.
I can't wait for the final event in GB. Now it looks like Petter can wrap up the championship. 1 point between the top 3 guys. hehheheheh. Novermber 9th the rast of the world will be dead to me while i'm planted in front on the TV.

That was a fantastic rally, but Speed's really screwing up thier timetables. I've flipped on the tivo a number of times to watch rally stuff and had an hour of nascar busch series qualify or some such nonsense. This time I happened to be in the house when RallyXS aired and I watched it, but the Tivo thought that it was nascar at that point...

GO PETTER!!!!
