Woot, got a bonus at work, thinkin about Nav system
do you really need navi? I mean, if you have some sort of directional sense and know where you're going, it's sort of worthless aside from bling factor. So, you gotta ask yourself, should you invest it and see some more $$$ in like half a year(for more mods, or maybe even a badass old school datsun or something), or get that?

No idea which is better as the nav system in the stand-alone sense.

I think the Alpine unit will use the same data jack...since both say they use a 13-pin plug
I dunno thouhg and its hard to get anyone to confirm this
there also are not any reviews that I can find comparing the two NAV system's usability
it's kind of annoying, I thought there would be a whole community around this but all teh GPS sites focus mainly on portable and handheld units
dammit
Build your own.
Cheaper, more functionality, and better performance. I have 40gb of music, MAME, DVD, GPS, rear view monitor, bluetooth phone control, traffic report, wifi access, and future expandability to include Delta Dash (or any OBDII interfacing software). Of course the only thing I ever use is the MP3...I hardly ever touch the GPS.
Check it out at mp3car.com...there are several WRX's over there too.

How is the management of the music on that DVD disc - does it maintain folder structure? Read ID3 tags?

On the center channel speaker deal, the only downside is it is only half-DIN height. Couldn't find one that is full DIN. So for now I'll fabricate a block-off plate, and later on I'll figure out some cool half-DIN tall thing to install there....leading candidate now is some kind of intercooler water sprayer controller

OMFG is right,
I'm still kicking myself for not buying a used (great condition) one for $600 last year. I though that was expensive for a 5.8in lcd.

the reason I;m looking at this solution is because
1) the Double DIN look is really clean and stock looking
2) the Kenwood screen has a DVD player in it so I would never have to switch out music or whatever disc I had in there to get updated nav info
That's two strikes abainst the Pioneer in my book =\

That will likely be the deal breaker for me
