First of all, hanks all for the reponses! The few that I had looked at, like the falken, toyo, and the sumitomo all received good wet traction ratings ~8ish or something, so thats comforting. However, people tend to be biased sometimes, especially when they've plopped down hundreds of dollars to get a set of tires they're gonna keep for a while, which is why I posted here

For the very few hours where the temperature dips below 40F or so, you should be very careful as the tires get hard and less grippy. With that in mind, you should be fine so long as you have tread designed to evacuate water.
No offense dude, but I don't think that had anything to do with your tires! lol

A good summer tire (ie S-03 or pilots) is just as good or better than all-season tires in the rain.
Snow, slush, ice and freeezing conditions are where summer tires should not be used.
That said, there are no "winters" in the BAy Area. If by winter you mean rain...what location other than death valley and maybe monterey see no rain in the summer?

The rest of the nation doesn't know what it means to hit 30's but not snow. By the time that happens in their part of the nation, they've already slapped on winter tires.
