Question Winter Driving With Suspension Mods

I will be equipping my Wagon soon with some ProDrive Springs and a rear sway bar, thanks to RMD484 for the recommendations!

The concern is, I do a half dozen Tahoe trips are year and will be hitting the snow. I realize stiffening up the suspension adds a lot of new factors to winter driving so I wanted to get some feedback on this.

Can you guys share you experiences and "dos and don'ts" about driving in the snow and wet conditions with suspension mods? What conditions should I avoid, or is this a "no no" all together?

Thanks in advance!

New rubber is always a good thing, and once you stiffen your suspension a bit its definately a must.

I went to tahoe almost every weekend 2 yrs ago when I had my 04 WRX. It had stiff as hell JIC coilovers, large rear sway bar, stiff bushings, etc etc. It was setup for track use.

Don't drive like a bonehead and it will work fine.

I hear ya! Any suggestions for some good all around rubber that will hold up in harsh conditions?

I ran the Continental ContiExtreme tires and they worked great.

Im in the same boat. Prodrive springs, sedan rear bar, etc....I go 6-10 times in the snow season. You will really benifit from having a second set of wheels and tires. I have one summer wheel/tire set and one winter wheel/tire set. My winter has dedicated snow tires. Swap them the day before and drive up with no worries.

AWD + snow tires = You will be waved at every checkpoint and they will close the roads before you have to worry about chains.

Keep an eye out for used oem wheels and buy some good all seasons or snows. Maybe you will get lucky and find a good deal....regional classifieds will be your best bet.

My '04 wagon has prodrive springs, 28mm sway bars, falkien ze 512's in 225. In the rain, my car handles perfectly fine. I haven't driven in the snow, but I imagine as long as your carefull you should be fine. You shouldn't let your guard down while driving in the snow no matter what your car's setup is.

+1. The Conti's Contact Extreme are a bit on the expensive side, but they do a damn good job (esp. for all-season tires). I went to Tahoe w/ the same suspension I'm running now (Prodrives and a Cusco adj. 22mm RSB) and the car handled just fine (even with a fully loaded wagon). Just drive how you would normally drive in the snow: carefully, and you will be fine. If you do get a larger rear sway bar that's adjustable, make sure it's on the softest setting.

not sure if this is the case for th OP, but suspension mods often lower the car some.

IN snow, a lot of road debris could become obstacles for a lowered car. Mine (TEIN Flex) were lowered maybe an inch lower than stock, but I parked on this rock that got jammed under the car. It was a PITA.

So, keep that in mind.

I went up to the snow once, and I have version 7struts/s-techs, and cobb front/rear sways. I also was running P-zero neros and it was completely fine.
