At the minimum, make sure your tires have plenty of tread, are inflated to proper cold pressure specs, and you have a full tank of gas to use as ballast just in case things get a little slippery.

P.S. Obey the *reduced* posted speed limit if there is snow on the road; AWD doesn't allow you to break the laws of physics.

Have fun!

no worries. I-80 is really well cleared since it's so well used. just don't drive like and idiot and go with the flow. don't weave in and out of lanes (although oftimes, there's only 1 lane) and you're good to go.

I would highly suggest getting a rack, or at least renting one. I don't think that birth canal of a ski pass in the middle of the rear seat back is going to accommodate three snowboards, much less one.

i don't think that's gonna work unless you try something like taking the bindings off and placing the boards vertically in the back seat. the wrx pass-through can accomodate one board but that's about it.

yeah, just take the bindings off 1, put that one in the middle then leave the other two facing opposite directions.

maybe have the other 2 guys both sit in the back with the front passenger seat fold back and head rest removed? then have the boards sit from front to rear seats? do as stevenkau mentioned and tight them up so they won't move around

yeah i just had my friends over to load up the car and since one of my friend has the k2 click in type of bindings his went in the middle and the other 2 faced oppicite directions and all fit in the middle. it took alot of work getting them to fit. it will probally be harder when they are wet and its cold at night putting them back. im looking into getting a magnetic snow board rack for my car now. thanks for the input.ill be carefull on the drive up and take it slow.

oh, one last thing. you won't need it...but....it never hurts to carry some chains, even cheapo ones. even the best awd/4wd systems can get stuck in some heavy stuff...you never know, so you always gotta be prepared. $30 for peace of mind is cheap, IMO.

Not this side of Boreal, at least 2 weeks ago it was still pretty bumpy for a few miles between Blue Canyon and Boreal, but its really nice past Truckee

You can stop in Davis and grab murder burger.

It is actually called Redrum Burger now. Redrum = murder backwards. If you take 80 E, take the Richards exit, make a right at the light and it'll be on your left. Probably not the type of advice you were looking for... but the food is good and always worth mentioning. My aunt stops at murder burger all the time when she went up to Tahoe.
