Unhappy windshield cracked, Repair or Replace?

sup guys~

I just found out my windshield is cracked(about 5~6 inches) this morning when I'm going to work. Most likely rock hit it during last weekend. I did a search on the forums. I could not make up my mind either reapir or repalce it?

I don't really know if that's repairable or not. As for replacement, I'm concering abount the quality of the new one. I don't really want to pay for a new one, then crack again 3 months later. I would rather pay more for a better one.

Any recommand shop would be great too.

Thanks for the help =)

i think once it starts cracking, you have to replace it.

General rule of thumb : if the crack/chip can be covered by a dime (in area), it is fixable. Any bigger than that, you're getting a new windshield

First thing talk to your Insurance Agent and see if they have any special deductable for windshields. Mine was only $100 and thats all I had to pay. They paid for the entire new windshield and on an 05 STI would have costed me around $700 with installation.

i was wondering what happens if u have a crack, and it starts to spread and u dont do anyhting about it? is it dangerousl ike the windshield isnt as strong and pretty soon it'll burst into pieces in your face? because i have a pretty big crack that im probably not gonna take care of on my 1993 corolla. just wondering if its too dangerous that i should replace it.

No it won't burst but the crack will get larger and larger until you will almost have to replace it. It's not like you HAVE to get it fixed A.S.A.P I would just wait till it is a good time for you.

I think they repair the cracks upto 7 inches.
I replaced mine for $200 for a Forester(I have 3 big cracks for
3 yrs). I call the person and he show up at my work place in 1 1/2hr.
Also, he did others WRX for $180.
It was good.

Today's rule, although still using currency, heh, is "Bigger than a dollar bill". It may not look pretty if its messy like mine was. But the bonding chemicals are way better now than in the ol' "dime" days.
