windshield for 2004 wagon -- recommendations

Apparently the windshield for a 2004 wagon is OEM only and will cost me $740

I've already contacted the following based on previous threads

Premier Auto Glass
Oakland Glass
Low Price Auto Glass

And all say that there's only OEM glass for my wagon. Have any 2004 wagon owners replaced their windshield with anything other than OEM? And if so, where at and how much???

hey doo doo,

dont have a wagon, so i dont know if this will help, but for my sedan, i had elmer (premier auto glass) do mine with aftermarket glass. is the wagon and sedan front glass really diffenent? cuz he gives an i-club price which is really reasonable for thicker, aftermarket glass, and i havent had any real problems with it yet. hopefully you dont get reamed on the OEM stuff. and sorry if this wasted your time.

make sure that you contact your insurance company... many policies have a windshield repair/replace bit which might help you... Otherwise, good luck!

I think the windshield on a wagon is a bit taller... premier was the 1st place I called, and they told me all they can get me is OEM

Yeah... I may have too, but my deductible isn't cheap (cheaper than $700 for OEM glass though). I believe Geico makes you use your comprehensive deductible for glass repair.

For what its worth.. my insurance has a seperate deductable for windshield replacements ($100) and repairs (chips) are fixed for free.

One of my neighbors needed his windshield replaced. He was going to pay out of pocket because he did not know that he had a windshield section of his policy. I told him to check with his insurance. He did and found out that he did have a windshield section in his policy and only had to pay his small deduct--he still owes me a beer for that one!

good luck!

besides which, the windshield is about the only place you wouldn't want lexan anyway - it's too hard to see through under the wrong circumstances.

Safelite is a bunch of hacks, at least they are out here in the East Bay.

I've seen my fair share of scraped-up sheetmetal windshield frames, and black sealant oozed out onto the paint.

If all Oakland Glass can offer is OEM, then you're better-off using your insurance for your glass-only policy, or, if you don't have one, your comprehensive insurance policy.

I found out that 02-03 glass will fit in 04-05s... the reason why 04-05 glass is only OEM is that supposedly it has a "third visor" which is a bunch of black dots above the rear view mirror (which actually I don't have now on my OEM glass )
