The trunk was tied up with string from a rear ender that "wrote off the car" but it was a reliable and quite fun to drive for what it was. A year or so later it died and the spouse says its time to look at new cars. So we go to the Subaru dealership and lo and behold the WRX has just come out. Guess my eyes started doing that Toad from Wind in the Willows thing.

Anyway I have a tendancy to be exceeding cheap so, so I kept driving it much to my wife's disapointment, I fixed the Civic for $5. Turned out it just need new plugs

Well the next thing was that my son was desperate to get a PS2 so my wife made a deal where if he got straight As for a semester he could have one. She didn't realize how much it was ($400 with a couple of games at the time ). Anyway he did it so deal is a deal and I had to buy one. While dong so I came across V-Rally2 in the bargin bin at Cosco an though it looked kinda cool.

So I started playing it and of course noticed that the Subaru Impreza was one of the primary cars. Made me get out the brochure and drool a bit.

Not long after that the Civic died again (296,000mi); quite politely I might add. It just stopped running at the top of the hill going into San rafeal and I was able to cruise over a couple of lanes an park it on the wide sholder by the off ramp, two block from the bus depot. So I went to work on the bus.

In the mean time my wife had looked up Subaru WRX on line, decided I need a Silver one, found one in stock at the local dealership and made an appointment.

I thought the Civic might have a broken timing belt which would mean RIP for sure but my mechanic said it probably needed a new igniter which was going to cost ~$120 to fix . I was torn but my wife insisted that I go test drive the WRX first.

Well I got the WRX  Definately would have been cheaper to fix the Civic. On the other hand, even the Salvation Army wouldn't take it as a donation so perhaps it was time for a new car

Tim
nice story cheers&ENJOY!!

My 94' 4Runner was sucking a valve and the motor was about to die, and my choices were down to 2 cars. The IS300 and a WRX. And I think I made the right choice. And it also came with a lot of free friends!

I had an '89 Accord LX Sedan from Febuary 2000 thru May 2002. It really was not the best car, very slow yet it was pretty reliable and got me where I needed to go. The car just had regular maintenance done to it, no mods or tuning of any sort just since it was old + my first car. During May '02 many problems arose with the car and I had to decide to get it sold and start looking for another used car.
I went around to many dealerships but nothing really caught my interest until I drove some cars over at Carlsen Subaru. Back at that time I didn't hardly know how to drive a stick and didn't really care too much, so I was just looking at the used cars w/ auto trannies. Unfortunatley in May '02 the WRX was brand new and was just too pricey + the fact that it was impossible to find a used one. Also I had been looking for something with AWD so I could take it up snowboarding in the winter w/ out chains.
Finally I settled on a 2000 Legacy L Sedan in seamist green. Ever since then I've had no mechanical problems and the maintenance is pretty simple. The car handled better than anything I myself had drove before and I liked having a little more room inside for my friends, as the Impreza's felt a little cramped for me. So far the car has been a blast driving and even more fun modding. I can't see myself driving anything BUT a Subaru from now on....I'm hooked:banana:

I have always owned trucks truck liek SUVs. I like skiing and wanted somethign that I could still take to the snow without too many worries.

I have always hated small cars, and so after test-driving six others on the same weekend I went home with a WRX. I'm not sure if I could have picked a smaller one....lol j/k, but nayway after my last ski trip in it I am more than happy. Plus even thought it isnt a truck there isnt a day that it doesn't do something to make me grin....even if its just driving to work.

So I love me suby, and am happy I got it. Usually I will only own a car for one to two years, but I see this one sticking around for many.

During my sophmore year of high school, I had just gotten into cars, so I hit the books, unlike a lot of the ricers at school who just looked at the pretty pictures. In 1996, I was reading an article talking about all these JDM cars in a magazine called Tuning Concept (it's a local free mag back in the day, God I feel old and I'm just 22). One of the cars they mentioned aside from the Skyline, Lancer Evolution, and the Silvia. Then I noticed the Version 4 Subaru WRX STi that was featured as well. I thought those big fog lights were pretty cool. Well, the 2.5RS debuted in 1998 here in the states. The specs looked real nice, 165 horsepower, 162 lb/ft of torque. Unfortunately, it didn't have that bumper with the cool foglights on it, but I loved the gold wheels and the neat vents on the hood.

Well, fast forward 4 years later, I've been pondering getting a new car because my Integra was dying. Brittle axles, slight engine problems, mushy suspension, chipping, fading paint, it was an old car that I didn't feel comfortable driving day to day. I figured it'd be a long while before I had a funding to get a new car. The ones on my list were a 98 Integra GS-R, a 240SX fastback (I wanted one since my freshmen year of high school, thanks to Option magazine!), and the 2.5RS. I was looking around at prices and I figured $14k would be the average asking price for a 2.5RS. Months later, about a year ago, I had gotten a new job that paid more. So I had a little extra money. Then in late December, I saw an ad for a 2.5RS for $13k. I got the guy to lower the price on top of that. It was loaded with all the OEM stuff you can get, almost. The price just so happened to fit my stingie budget.

Funny thing about the Impreza I got. I remember talking to Daios (Eric) about getting a silver sedan, cuz I really liked silver, and I wanted a sedan. He told me to just get whatever Impreza 2.5RS regardless of color cuz they're rare. Oddly enough, when I bought my Impreza, it turned out to be....a silver sedan with 23k miles. After posting on I-Club since March of 2002, I finally got one for Christmas last year. Hooray.

The car growls, I don't have to worry about no stupid maintenance problems, it cuts through corners like warm butter, and it just looks so damned cool. Just like the ones I saw during Legend of Speed. Haha.

Car Info: 96 Chevy Impala SS, 06 GMC 2500HD (former 02 WRX)
In March 02, I had the Impala (still do, of course....a 96 Impala SS). It's a fun car to drive, but gets pretty bad mileage plus I was getting to the point on modding it where I didn't want to DEPEND on it for getting to work every day (in other words, I wanted to turn it into a "toy"....and it's gotten even more modded since I got the Scooby).

Looked around at new cars, not much excited me for what I was looking to spend (sub $30K). That is, until I saw the WRX.

Liked the idea of AWD, and plenty of power (I HATE underpowered cars!). The fact it was surprisingly roomy and handled fairly well was a plus too.

After more research, decided to take the plunge. Went thru www.carsdirect.com , and to my surprise they had one with exactly what I wanted (PSM Wagon, 5 speed, most options) at Bianco. Was up there a few days later, had a great experience dealing with Adam (RS Turbo on i-club), and I had my new car

I've had fun modding the Subie, and have it at a point I REALLY like it now (few power mods but still dead reliable, plus lotsa handling and braking upgrades with a little subtle "bling"). It's strange : the car spun a rod bearing at 1600 miles (ut-oh = new shortblock plus left side of longblock under warranty) but has been VERY reliable since then. It's actually faster than the Impala now......but I'm "fixing" that this winter on the SS (building a 383 stroker motor for it, should be around 425-450 HP and 450 ft-lbs of torque when done )

Since 95 I've owned 5.0 mustangs and convinced all my friends, brothers, and cousins to buy one. I've had a hatchback and a convertible and have done everything you could think of from, paint, bodykits, engine swaps, overhauls, suspension and rear end swaps and I even replaced the auto tranny in the convertible with a manual. Not to mention all the street/freeway racing, a couple car wrecks high speed chases with the local authorities, and impounds. Yeah I was one of those guys........

After having done just about every mod, and restorations you could think of I started getting tired of the stangs. I was tired of going to the gas station every other day, tired of setting off alarms every where I went, I was tired of pissing off the neighbors, being followed by the cops and being pulled over all the time, and most of all I was soooo tired of the potent gaseous fumes that filled the interior causing me to become light-headed everytime I drove the car. You're prolly tired of reading this.......

So yeah the stang was getting old and right around the beginning of 03, my senior year in college, I started noticing more subies riding around. Now I swore I'd never buy a rice rocket and I always laughed at them as they drove by with their ricy exhausts and funky Voltron body kits. But the suby was different.....I never saw them riced out and the owners didn't look like wannabe chinatown hustlers, they reminded me of dorky cool PC savvy, Starbuck sippin, level headed, intelligent people....the kinda guy I had become. Whenever I mentioned the REX to other car enthusiasts, only good things were said about the car. I soon realized that the subie was the next level in tuning for me. However, only one thing bothered me about it, it's a friggin 4-door sedan...........

When you think of sports cars you don't think of 4-doors or wagons. But this car has personality! It's a wolf in sheeps clothing! And it's the coolest looking 4-door I'd ever seen. So after graduation I decided that I had to have one and I began my research online.

So.....finally................I went to Downtown Subaru in Oakland one morning in September with my mom, (the closest dealer to her house) and after a test drive and a couple hours later I drove off the lot in my 04 World Rally Blue 5 speed Sedan. Yeah I would have liked to have gotten the STI, but all the fun in tuning would be gone, not to mention the chunkier car payments and worst of all insurance, especially with my record. Besides, I got the color I wanted and a X-mas list full of planned mods. When I install everything I'll be able to spank most mustangs out there, EVO's and STI's!

First wanted a 97 prelude back when it frist came out when I was a sophmore in college. Dreamed about that car all thorugh highschool and into my freshman year in college. Then my frined showed me some stuff about an Impreza. I was intrigued so for the whole summer of 99 I spent most of my time at work surfing the web finding any last bit of info I could find out about the car. The more I read the more I wanted run. I read through every post on the Edmunds msg boards and was pretty much consumed by the thought of having a dark blue 2.5 RS. as luck would have it my sophmore year a guy in my apartment comlex drove a 99 2.5RS. I would always park by that guys car and dream about getting one. Of course the second I heard that the WRX was coming out I knew that would be the car I would get. I was getting prettty anxious too, becasue I remember ppl sending in spy photos of the wrx and pics of the wrx waiting at the docs. Well I finally graduated college and wanted to get a new car but decided to wait till the STI came out, but my 90 escort pony hatchback died in august 2002(finally didn't think I culd still drive an automatic that drove like a stick and with a driver seat that used to fall back for no apparent reason) and I needed a car. Without any hesitation I bought the WRX because it had been the only car I have ever thought about owning the last 4 years. Best money spent every since. Still dreaming about the STI but figure when this engine eventually dies I can source out a STI engine, but if not I might break down and get the I-speed 2.5L STI short block within the next year and a half

old to new

last year I had a 1968 chevy corvair 500 with the 140 quad carb engine and 4 speed transmission. Was spending bucks and time fixing it up and having fun. But it was also my daily driver and the third time it decided to take a nap in traffic on my way to work was it. The WRX was the best bang for the buck and the test drive was great compared to the corvair.

Went on a snowboarding trip with a bunch of middle school friends whom I haven't seen in 15 years, rented an SUV and spend the most boring 4 hours in my life inside that SUV. Then the next week, went out and bought the WRX and went snowboarding 5 more times that season. Got my $300 speeding ticket the first time I drove up in the WRX near Vacaville (SP). I just wanted to get a 4x4 that's not an SUV. Narrowed down to the Matrix and the WRX. If the Matrix had the 4x4 with the Celica engine, I would've bought that instead of the WRX. But thank goodness I got the WRX.
