eh possibly, but it is possible to damage the rear axle if you give it too much power with the DCCD to the rear.

i saw a video on youtube where someone was repeatedly launching an STi and their rear axle just snapped. the were able to drive home by moving the DCCD to the front

Yeah, ouch

Its all what terms people choose to use.

throwing the power to the rear, im assuming, allows you to hold a larger radius turn and also allows you to counter steer with your front tires more than you could if it were 50/50

Without the DCCD you pretty much have to keep your front tires straight unless your on wet tarmac or dirt, then you can turn it opposite lock with fun results

The DCCD doesnt change the power ratios, it only changes the torque distribution. This is a great read, although highly technical.

Ive seen that video also, I blame it on clutch drops with the sticky potenzas! That video truly shows how stout our trannies are, Id much rather break an axle than a gear

You can pretty much drop the clutch all day and not break anything as long as you dont have ultra grippy tires. Thats the main reason I choose the STi over the evo.

yeah... thats the secret, alright. I do wish more people would take that advice to even start racing; in a low hp car. I've done some rallying in my RS that i've had and it was a blast. But, extra torque and a boost from the turbo would help me get out of corners more quickly; and oHhh do i crave for that~

Yeah, I went from a '00 RS to an '04 Forester XT and it's been absolutely wonderful. Driving on dirt is that much more enjoyable and you have the ability to throw it sideways a lot easier

I totally agree... My track car that I started with and used for 4 years was an '80 Celica coupe that was pretty modded suspension/brakes-wise but not that all powerful. I think I learned way more in that car than if I had started with something powerful simply because I had to learn how to keep momentum through the turns in order to go fast - you learn how to get through turns fast while others learn how to "get through" turns and then mash the gas in the straights...

One thing that would be an awesome start for really anyone is to get into karting. You learn tons about vehicle control that loosely applies to cars, but the biggest thing I think is it's one of the few times you can truly pilot a vehicle at the limits - the vehicles and your own. Good times for sure.

I just drove down/up hwy 17 yesterday and it was mildly frustrating... There I was in a 1.2L 3cyl car wishing people would just.... drive! So weird to be held up by a car w/ ~500hp when you are doing ok w/ 73. I honestly feel that the better cars get - traction, hp, braking, safety/electronics, the WORSE drivers get. It's easy to see out there - people are so scared through the corners, but romp on it and cut each other off in the straights.

i went karting last week at lemans in fremont. good times, i can actually drift without worrying about how much my bumper, control arms, wheels, tires (you get the point), will cost~ ahaha im guessing you were driving a justy?! i see more hp at santana row than i'll ever see anywhere else in the bay area. most accidents that you see when it happens to supercars are more often supertotaled. maybe they should require a special license for purchasing those cars

We got a call from Suby of Santa Cruz - so we went to pick up the Justy yesterday. Driving back on 17 was so fun (except for all the other cars). It's such a silly looking little thing, but one of the most fun cars I have ever owned (37).

That pic is at my work, parked between two blockades that are designed to keep cars out. So I am gonna look for info on the RallyX course as my wife wants to do it too.

Hmmm... T-Hill in May. RE-92's should be fine in the dirt right?

They're decent enough in the dirt. Just up the pressure a little to you don't pull the bead and you'll be good to go. I'll probably head out to that rallyX too.
