I've voted based on what I felt was right for the times. Sometimes that meant Dem, sometimes Rep.

At any rate, I see you "Drives : 07 wagon" so that trumps all, my subie pignose wagon brother.

Dem's are usually labelled "more legislation" and Rep's are usually labelled "less".

As far as the OP is concerned, I think the dude in the article should get the ruling that he was not wearing the seatbelt he was supposed too. "reasonable" is often implied in laws, so it's probably going to be interpreted, "occupants must wear a (reasonably proper) seatbelt"; where seatbelt is considered a "restraining system". The decorative belt he made is not a restraining system. That's my wild guess.

As for the seat belt law itself, I think posts here have already gone over the major pros, and the cons do not outweigh these. I'd wager the "majority" of Americans" agree seat belts should be required.

Although the devil in us sure would like to see dumb-asses Darwinian themselves with this one. But I'll leave that to be portrayed in dark comedies... oh it has. Heh.
fully agree with you. people vote for what other people tell them to vote for and don't look into it themselves and make a personal decision. and to top that, a lot of people that constantly b*tch and moan, don't even vote.

my point ultlimately is if something is universally known, such as how a seatbelt will and can save lives, why we (Californian voters) would need to make it LAW?

Option one: People do not wear seatbelts, they do not die, and thus do not continue to pay taxes, fines, etc

Option two: People WEAR their seatbelts, and continue to feed the machine.

Way too many people drive without insurance. They crash and the rest of us that indeed have insurance pay for those that don't. The helmet law is the same thing. As far as the seatbelt law is concerned, it's all about whats called the "mileage death rate". The state of California wants that number to be below 1.5 deaths per 1 million miles driven on Ca. roadways. The way they see fit to keep that number down is to have the CHP write as many citations as they can for seatbelt violations. Unfortunately it's a fact that unbelted individuals are twice as likely to be killed in a collision as a belted driver.

Like it or not, facts are facts.

Over 16% or about 50 million Americans don't have health insurance.

If 90 percent of Americans buckle up, we will prevent more than 5,500 deaths and 132,000 injuries annually.

I pay taxes and I don't want to pay for your funeral or your hospital bill, when you don't wear a seatbelt.

That is a great way to justify bull**** laws to protect the stupid, and take the money out of our pockets through aggressive law making and enforcement. But please explain how we are
"paying for their funeral's and hospital bills." Sounds like you are reciting the typical politician created BS that we hear on the news.

If I pay 1% more of earning through my life, but thousands and thousands of stupid people die and hopefully do not reproduce, then I consider that a bargain.

Exactly - Seat belt tickets and helmet tickets are bs nanny laws. It's just another way for them to dip their hands into our wallets.

Who wears seatbelts anyways? I don't like how it holds me in when I take my car off jumps, and sometimes on the freeway I use cruise control and just kick my feet up on the dash like I'm on my couch...
