I consider myself blessed, to have even have had the opportunity to work so hard to get so much when starting out with so little. Some people don't even get the opportunity to work hard enough, and some people can't. And yeah, some people are scheisters. If you think, however, that we can be true individuals or truly autonomous in anything, it is delusional.

My point is, no one reasons nor "makes themself" on his or her own. Its a contradiction to the reality of living in society. We are responsible for eachother.

What does that have to do w/ whether Arnold will/will not be a good governor? How does marrying into a family make a you a good politician? Good business man? Have you been to a planet hollywood lately? I don't care if you vote for Arnold, just come up w/ better reasons.

you're a good guy jason, but...I gotta ask...

do you pay homeowners' taxes???

I've paid waaaay too much of these, employment & payroll taxes too, matched social security taxes, the works, to give a damn about the poor.

you could live PHAT off of what I've had to PAY in taxes, and that is WRONG!

To see how this state squanders our tax dollars is pathetic. To continue to support these bankrupt, worthless social services and public schools, is even more pathetic.

I was raised by a wealthy family in Danville, but I didn't make myself with so much as a dollar from my family, which is why when I vote I CHOOSE not to pay these bankrupt a$$holes ANOTHER DIME!!!
we pay 8.25% sales tax & they tripled VLF fees...FOR WHAT??? so that we drive on the finest paved roads? no...so that our freeways are state-of-the-art? no....FOR WHAT?

THERE IS NOTHING.

It's like "The Usual Suspects"...there's no coke on the damned ship.

I'm the first to agree with you... the system sucks. But with no "system" at all, the underprivilaged never get any help. Most, like you, are so disgruntled they're just trying to keep their own heads afloat.

As for the taxes I pay. I only pay income tax and my own SS and medicare taxes and whatever else applies with being an employed person in California and the USA. But, I put my money where my mouth is... I tithe on a regular basis 10% of my gross salary. 33% of that goes to projects of our denomination that more often than not serves the poor (like building houses). 33% of that runs our local church. The other 33% go to projects run by our local church that almost exclusively serve the poor. All this money moves with immense accountability. We're not trying to solve poverty (which is the problem in what the System tries to do). We are just trying to love people who will otherwise be forgotten or rejected. In the same vein, I take off 2 afternoons a week from work to tutor children in San Francisco's Mission and occassionally take them out for fun things to do on my dime. And a few times a year I give some more to other charities, like the SF Food Bank.

I consider myself pretty wealthy. I own a $25,000 car and live in a 400sq ft apartment by myself and I have a 32" TV. I have more than I actually need... which is especially appearant after visiting parts of the world where 10 people live in a place the size of mine. I don't feel like I HAVE to impoverish myself out of guilt. I just habitually examine how much resources I use and what I am depriving someone else of when I use more than I really need. The culture you and I live in preaches to us that we deserve to have every desire fullfilled... just watch TV commercials. Its a terrible lie that makes selfish and kills our capacity to be other-directed

jason,

I think that what you do is tremendous.

I myself am a buddhist, and my contributions to the Berkeley temple consist of eating at their Sunday lunchfests, which are run by paying (donating) for the food members prepare on the spot.

At my restaurant, at the end of the day, I would give food that couldn't be served the next day, to the local homeless people, in exchange for them keeping my common area clean of garbage, etc.

My restaurant and catering company have also provided top-notch cuisine for many charity events, which have resulted in millions of dollars in donations, at auction, for those charities.

If our Government is in the business of helping the poor, keeping our infrastructure up-to-date, and educating our youth, then they must be held accountable, and this is why I'm voting to gut Davis, and why I will NOT vote to increase our taxes, because the Government hasn't given me a reason to trust them with my money.

ABC, CNN both say Gray is out and Arnold is our next governor. Until we recall him.

They must have read this thread.

Edit: CBS and NBC now agree.

I hope you people are happy. No T4 for us.

Lessee... we've seen T-2 as a normal looking guy, T-3 as a hot chick...

The new Terminator would have to be something radically different - I think T-4 might be played by Gary Coleman!

I can't wait until Cruz Bustamante and Antonio Villaraigoso are voted out of office, then I'll be happy.

Fuggin' send them to the dump with Davis, now that's justice!

It was great to hear the exit polls show that 3/4 of those who considered themselves "moderate liberals" or "democrats" were adamant in their displeasure with Davis and Bustamante.
