SPOILERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Daaaaaaaaaaaamn! I did NOT expect that AT ALL! I'm really glad GSP won, he deserved it way more then BJ did... This is the first time I have ever seen a fighter give up in between rounds like that! WOW! I knew he wouldn't be able to survive 5 rounds, he'll always be a 3 round fighter... I can't believe how much GSP rocked BJ in every single round... There were a few times where I thought the ref was going to call the fight but somehow they kept it going, especially right before the 4th round ended where GSP was on top and raining down with punches it looked like BJ was brain dead or something, eyes rolled back, mouth gaping wide open, and face deformed from the punishment... I like watching BJ fight, its always interesting which is why he's in my top fighter list of fighters to watch, but I really hope this shuts him up once and for all... His crap talking doesn't match his ability... One thing I love about fighters like GSP is their sportsmenship. I have hardly ever heard GSP talk smack about a fighter and he's always respectful and even bows to all opponents, this makes me respect him as a fighter which is much more then I can say for BJ...
Is BJ just lazy when he trains or what? I think he'd be a much better fighter if he put as much time and effort into training as a champion fighter like GSP. BJ is a natural fighter and has natural abilities that some others just don't have and I think he relies too much on his natural abilities then he should be... He should be training 2x harder then he does and combine that with his natural abilities.
GSP on the other hand is the complete opposite. He trains until he's in absolute peak shape, then studies his opponent to the point where he can read them like a computer analyzing information and uses it to counter the opponents attacks. He's like a machine with more dedication then BJ will ever have.
It was a very fun fight to watch... Very uneven, but very fun to watch GSP ROCK BJ Penn

GSP is on a whole different level when it comes to training. I don't think anybody trains as hard as GSP does. Add that to his naturally gifted abilities, and u have a total complete fighter who dominates all opponents with ease.
Thiago Alves is next up and doesn't stand a chance against GSP.
Like I said before, there's really nobody now in the welterweight class to seriously challenge GSP for the belt. I really want to see him move up to middleweight and take on Anderson Silva to see who really is the best pound for pound fighter in the world (Fedor owns all too
)

Hahhaha! Dude, I was thinking the same thing... He was trying to look tough but couldn't hide the intimidation he was feeling. If he is as weak as his mentality, he doesn't stand a chance against BJ let alone GSP. It was funny to watch him on stage...

Was anyone else impressed with GSP's post fight game plan? Greg Jackson is a genius at creating game plans.
Penn really needs to change some stuff with his training camp. The talent that nature gave him will only take him so far
Im not saying Thiago is going to beat GSP but he is a legit threat. The pitbull showed great take down defense against Kos and Hughes. Dont forget he is HUGE at 170 and his amazing muay thai.

We should start an official MMA thread so we wont need to start a new thread for every fight and post news between big fights. Im pretty sure we have enough fans on the forum to keep one alive. What do you guys think?
I honestly don't think there's anybody strong enough to stop GSP in the welterweight class at this point.
Penn is every bit as good as he says he is. As Joe Rogan said at the end of the fight though: "When you got two guys of equal greatness the bigger man is going to win"
BJ didn't give up, his brother stopped it. I don't think he isn't training hard enough - it's media hype when they say that... UFC was trying to contrast GSP and Penn as much as possible to hype the fight up.
GSP also didn't ROCK BJ at any point. He hit him... ROCKING someone is when you knock them silly.
Also I noticed a lot of the hits standing up my friends thought BJ got hit and were like "OOOO" but BJ didn't get hit. It's hard to tell if one doesn't box but I guaratee you - watch the fight in slow motion and you'll see he pulled back from the shots and/or was pulling back and didn't get really impacted. It's a defense unique to boxing (I really don't know of any other martial art that uses pulling... Muay thai guys use it dodge high kicks but not punches) that's really hard to spot, kind of like.... i dunno, hearing an EWG or a turbo spool sound if you don't know anything about cars.

In terms of strength in the WW division only Anthony Johnson is up there, but skillwise there's no comparison...
I'd actually put Alves' TD defense beyond Penn viewing his wrestling against Penn. Guys who are highly mobile like Penn/Alves need to be smashed against the cage and singled. Hard to shoot a double against mobile guys. Singles take a lot of strength to finish compared to other takedowns, especially the style of high singles that GSP kept trying to hit. Singles thus get problematic against strong people.
The difference between Alves and the rest though is that he's on the same level strengthwise as GSP. I actually mistyped my last post when I said AJ was the only guy.
I mean obviously we're just fans and it's hard to know how strong people actually are without training with them right? But you can definitely look at Alves and GSP's performance against Hughes and with both of them similarly manhandling the dude (don't forget Hughes is ALREADY freakishly strong), you can guestimate they're both up there
Actually if u look at the video, he said something to his brother, hence his brother called the fight.
I think he said something like "I can't take this anymore."
Regardless, he didn't even bother to argue with his side about stopping the match, so in a sense he did give up.
