I would recommend first driving rotax or shifter karts before moving into the car realm. you just need to always think about momentum, and the "friction circle". go indoor karting or outdoor karting, get a membership somewhere... she'll be a good driver inside 1year. for good city driving, order goes signal, then input. not the other way around. =) i hate when people hit their brakes, turn into somewhere, and then throw on their signal... dumb, but a lot of people do this. <end rant> lol
I don't know why I didn't think of this myself!

If you guys drove around with my wife you'd probably die from jumping out of the car. She's REALLY scary to ride with. She doesn't understand the basic principals of how a car works and doesn't really think about the physics of how a car handles, especially one as heavy as hers. She relies greatly on her brakes and doesn't understand how that's not the right thing to do... I figure if she learns how things work that she'll become a safer driver because she'll learn what is right to do and what you shouldn't do, as well as learning how to turn, brake, and basically how to drive... lol. It's sad but true... I just hope that someone out there can help her become a better driver! Any help with finding a place is greatly appreciated.

Unlike Germany, you don't have to prove you can drive. I don't know if you've noticed, but car manufacturers are working on making cars advanced enough so you don't have to do anything but sit inside - an appliance for hauling people from one place to another.
Anyone with a pulse, who can read the eye chart and pass a couple easy tests can get a license, Rau.

He said its not the kart, its the driver, to which I said, and I say to you:
If you drag a golf kart against a corvette you know which one is going to win. I don't care if the guy in the corvette doesnt know how to shift. He'll learn before the golf cart crosses the finish.
Now as I said before, I agree with most of what you said but its NOT just the car. If the cars are comperable yes, the drivers skill is BIG, but when there is a huge performance gap, it just does not matter.

If you're curious which car is faster you should drive each of the cars (which it sounds like you are). Compare the laps that you run with each car.
At least that way the driver skill is a constant. Given suitable time to familiarize yourself with the capabilities and behavior of the car you should be able to answer which one is faster around the track.

Since Brucelee is setting up such a ridiculous comparison, how about a not so ridiculous FACT:
Primitive Rally School, Santa Rosa CA - April 2010
In the rally school final run competition for the fastest time:
WRX STi
WRX
Evo
Forester XT
VW Golf
Ford Escort ('90s version)
Toyota Yaris
What car won for fastest time?
I mean really now, the WRX STi has 300hp, the Evo is right in the mix, the VW has about half the hp, the old ratty Ford Escort has somewhere in the 100 hp range, and then there's the Toyota Yaris...who won this event, and smacked down everybody else with a time that no one yapping in this thread could match. It's not all about the HP...
...besides the fact that my Forester (FLI dyno'd 100WHP) can traverse the Hopland-Lakeport section of Highway 175 faster than my wifes' Forester (FLI dyno'd 250WHP).
Unpossible. You're full of soup.
Oh really??
