OP, unless you're getting an absolute steal on the re01rs there's comparable tire options for not too much coin. and you'll actually be able to replace like sets. dunlop z1 star spec comes to mind.

Right now on the new sti I still have my re70's, not sure what I'll change too when they are toast, not sure if ps2 will loose a lot of grip towards re70 or not in the dry.
ALL Summer Performance (especially Extreme & Max) tires suck in cold... Newer ones handle wet better though.

Stock 04-07 STI comes w/ RE070 & the other car (AFAIK) comes w/ these as OEM was S2000 CR. No replacement for these yet (AFAIK).

RE-01R is replaced by RE-11.

Michelin Pilot PS2 is OVERPRICED!!! (IMO)
I'd consider Dunlop Direzza Sport Z1 Star Spec, Kumho Ecsta XS, or Hankook Ventus R-S3 for Extreme Summer Performance... for DD I'd consider Sumitomo HTR Z III or Hankook Ventus V12 evo K110.

the thing I liked about the ps2 was the ride, the grip seemed good although not sure if it matches re70, but its AWESOME in the wet. IMO as good as most any all season except thru standing water.. But I tracked the ps2's in the rain and they were so comfy.

Yea I dunno why I didn't like my re01r's, But I only put about 600 miles on them before my friend sent my car into a tree. I definitely felt they were scary when you break loose relative to the ps2 tho, maybe they were just to new?

The thing that blows about the ps2 is the sidewalls have a hard time holding up on awd cars, and as you said they are a total rip.
