Kinda off topic but related...

I was just at an alignment shop today and the guy showed me how some places get the settings to the requested specs. Really scary. He showed me how he could get additional negative camber in the front without touching anything on the car. All he did was unlock the measuring apparatus (sorry dont know the technical term) on the wheel so that it was just slightly off the face of the rim...VOILA!!! alignment "adjusted" to requested specs. And while it's at that "adjustment" they print that out as the AFTER (since you get a before and after alignment printout).

Please, please, please someone confirm that the shops recommended on this thread do not employ this very shady practice. I've been going to AI since I've owned my subie (almost 3 yrs), but never really watched them do it. As many have done here, I went on the recommendation of others. I even have an appointment with AI this Saturday. No doubt Orlando and Steve have ALWAYS been helpful and knowledable. But as a consumer the fact that I have never seen the work done keeps biting away at me, especially with what I just witnessed today.

Has anyone seen the work being done? Heck, if Orlando or Steve are on i-club even better!!! Please quell my fears and my faith will be restored once again.

I had a similar issue with Wheel Works which is why I will never ever ever take anything to a Wheel Works again. I had a bad experience at 3 different branches and I won't let any good friends talk me into a 4th try. After 3 times back they couldn't correct an issue with my Celica. One trip to Custom Alignment fixed it, explained what happened at Wheel Works and convinced me to never go to another chain like that again. It was a similar thing with their automatic things they clamp on the wheel. CA also noted the tire pressures were all way off, so they were trying to align my car with uneven tire pressure... Anyway.

I have faith in Orlando being honest. I asked for -1.5 front camber and he said the most he could get was -1.0. I have watched them doing the alignment.

Ryan,

Roger Kraus Racing does a lot of race cars. Brandon takes a lot of pride in his work. Crappy alignments result in crappy laptimes and pissed off customers. You can be confident that they do not employ the unethical tactics you are worried about.

02BlackWRX,

You don't have to be an a$$hole ALL the time. Posting the same thing 5 times in a row without adding any content doesn't benefit anyone. I get that you like them. That's great. But your irritating and valueless posts are having a negative impact on Auto Innovations. I already don't like them because of you and I know nothing about them. Way to promote them.

I wasn't trying to premote them, this was a stupid thread anyways, there are like 50 of them in the bay area forum asking the same **** and everytime the answer is the same thing...AI

note that it wasn't 5 times in a row, it was after a couple people posted.

does Roger Kraus Racing only do allignments or will they fix broken suspension pieces? I was recently backed into and need to get it looked at for insurance purposes. The body shop my car is at mentioned wheel works and i really won't feel comfortable having them look/work on my car.
