Do you have a link to the info? Two of the cars I drive often at work (Escalade, Lincoln TC) are flexfuel vehicles, and being able to hop into the carpool lane without passengers would be *****in!

Nice!" and then he left

Ill look for it. I just know if because we deal with a few cab companies and the owner of one told me about it while getting his cavalier smogged. Im fairly certain E-85 doesnt qualify. Its only CNG that does. CNG cars have strict emission requirements and dont pass smog 90% of the time without new cats (atleast when it comes to cabs).

They've been out there in force the past 2 weeks or so. Trying to bust carpool cheaters. And almost everyday they are out there, I see people getting a ticket. Stupid people. But yea there was 5 there at 7am when I went through
And I think those carpool hybrid stickers are expiring, so I would expect to see more in areas of carpool lanes looking to bust the hybrid drivers who don't pay attention.

The hybrid yellow stickers are expiring at the end of this month, so they will be giving a lot of carpool tickets. Police departments don't have quotas per say (bf is a cop in training) but with the lay offs and all that, its harder for them to be as leinient. (sp?) So it may seem like they are picking on every little thing, but most of them are just trying to keep their jobs. This economy stucks! :-(

Yeah, I wanted the info on whether those cars could get the stickers. I found the ARB website with the info though and flex fuel vehicles are not on the list. However, there is a new sticker coming out 1/1/2012 that'll be for PZEV vehicles, which most newer Subies are
Also, the yellow stickers expire 7/1/2011, so get ready to see a bunch of Prii getting pulled over

I commute 680 to 280 every morning and see cops constantly. They now offer Fastpass on parts of 680 coming over from pleasanton. They periodically have light polls that take pictures of your plates if you don't have fast pass and I think they observe to see if you have a second passenger in the car. Plus there is a little yellow light on the back of the poll to let officers sitting near it see if you are a violator.
The new carpool stickers will be for the newer zero emissions vehicles. My mother in law has a 2000 prius, and she won't qualify. So shes thinking of trading in for a new one haha, just to get the sticker since she commutes from Fremont/Union CIty border to Morgan Hill.

At least you didn't get that jerky Fremont Bike cop. My bf tells me horror stories about when he was a kid and that cop was around lol.

Well speaking of cops I had 3 sheriffs in front of my friends house a few days ago, I definitely got a few texts and ims saying wth did you do. Funny story, I was actually joking around with them cause I knew them and they were writing me a report for a stolen structure fire helmet haha. Even with my dark tints etc etc, I haven't been hassled at all with the amount of PD or CHP on the road. Guess it pays to have a legacy

It's just lights. If you drove in the lane and looked in your rearview you would see there is a yellow light and a green light. When a car passes through the fasttrack area it will light one of those colors. Green means you have a fasttrack and can legally drive solo. Yellow means you need to have 2 passengers in your car. So for the cops, it's mostly a visual thing. They could be half way up the hill and see the light go off and be able to secondary check the occupancy. Plus if someone tries to jump out of the lane, not only do they get a carpool ticket ($384?) but also a ticket for crossing over the double lines, another $384 or so. Plus at the bottom of the Sunol grade, there has usually been a cop sitting there with laser getting people for speeding down in the carpool lane.

There aren't any cameras. The company my wife works for had a hand in building that lane. Unless they are planning to install them later, right now there aren't any.
